I just can't see how people say that David Brent (Gervais; U.K. original) is more mean-spirited than Michael Scott (Carell; U.S. version). Brent's dumb-assness was predominantly out of wanting to be liked. Scott wants to be liked, too, but he's much more assholish. For example, he cuts down Phyllis; he doesn't care about Kevin's biopsy results 'cause it's taking attention away from his birthday. Brent never did stuff that bad.
You cant compare the two shows. Pretty much the only thing they have in common is the name.
As far as Extras, that is a great show. I like it better then the original Office. And the series final that aired last week was so good.
The UK and US Offices are a much better comparison than your comparison of Extras to the UK Office.
The Offices also have much more in common than just the show titles. The execution, among other things, is just different.
Capo, I'm sort of a fan of Extras.
