Speaking of drinking with a "famous" personality (although I don't know if this really fits the category):
About ten years ago I was in my usual bar after work and the bartender told me that the guy sitting next to me had just written a book about Frank Sinatra (the bartender knew I was a big Sinatra fan). The guy next to me overheard the bartender and asked if I liked Sinatra. I told him that I did, and as a matter of fact I had just bought and read a book called "The Way You Wear Your Hat" (about Sinatra). It turns out he was the author (Bill Zehme). We spent the next two hours talking about Old Blue Eyes.
