Unless you fly for 24 hours or so in the same plane like I have done, you have no idea what a torture it is. The international flights are an extreme endurance test. Jet lag, horrible food, no legroom.... Believe me, you cannot sit in one place for that long (even with breaks).

Are you sure they even give you food on the international flights? When I flew to Michigan last month there was no food to speak of. They "sold" snack packages. Since you can't bring food on the plane, and since I left so early, I was starving. I purchased the delux snack pack for $5.00. This included mini snack bags of peanuts, goldfish, pretzels, a bite size sausage stick, small pack of cookies). They also had a two dollar snack which was the goldfish and pretzels I believe. Not that airplane food was ever that good, but I do like to eat.

I agree, but I think a connecting flight on a single-engine "puddle-jumper" has to be a close second. I enjoy going to Key West maybe once a year or so, but the drive from the Florida mainland can be tedious, to say the least. One of the worst flights of my life was from Miami to Key West-----a mere 159 miles-----it was supposed to be less than an hour. I won't go into detail to spare poor Beth-ee, but from that day forward when I go to the Keys, it's US1 all the way!

I don't know my planes (by name), but I can tell you about 10 years ago or so, my daughters and I went to Michigan and had a connecting flight in Chicago. We had one of those propellor planes (at least that's what I call them). I mean one thin wall between the window seat and the outside. No division between the cockpit and the passengers. We could see the pilot and co-pilot the plane was very small. I don't like very small planes. To top it all off, the airline was "ConAir" (or something very close). If you remember the Nick Cage movie.

Anyway, Bethie, not scaring you honest. I'm just saying nothing happened even on the dinky little plane. It was just a little too close for comfort for me. It's all in one's frame of mind I think.

Suzanne Collins BALTIMORE (WJZ) ― The Maryland Transit Administration Police say they are now investigating an assault on a city bus as a possible hate crime.

Suzanne Collins reports a group of African American students are charged with attacking a white bus rider.

The woman, Sara Kreager, 26, is suffering from two broken bones in her face, several cuts to the top of her head and cuts to her neck and back, she was released from Shock Trauma on Tuesday.

It seems Kreager boarded the 27 bus with her male friend in North Baltimore. The police report says a male student leaped into every seat she tried to occupy saying it was reserved.

Ultimately, the woman was beaten. Police have charged eight middle schools students and they are looking for a ninth suspect. Police say it was a rare violent attack on public transportation.

Police say the rear door of the bus was broken open and Kreager was dumped behind the bus.

The white male who was with Kreager, Troy Ennis, was also beaten. Parents for some of the students say they are hearing their children were provoked. The parents said one of the victim's spit on a middle schooler and pulled a knife out. However, transit police say they have no evidence of that right now.

Thirty-thousand city students ride the public bus system, to get to and from school. Now the MTA wants their parents to know that it is a privilege to ride the bus and it can be taken away.

The school system is investigating to decide whether or not there will be suspensions or expulsions.

As an outsider, I find the term "African American" funny. Why not "European Americans" for whites? Even the original Indians become "Native Americans" and chinese become "Asian Americans". Every continent should have its share. Not just Africa and Asia. There should also be "South American Americans"

In International flights, they bring inedible food at some particular time intervals. If you refuse it, you will starve badly. So the advice given to everyone on their first flight is "eat whatever is given, whenever it is given"
The domestic flights in US are the worst in terms of "giving" food, not the quality. I traveled quite a few times in the last year and it used to be "mini pretzels" and "beverage" before, now it has reduced to just beverage. The beverage of course doesn't include beer/wine (which is $5)!

I'm not even admoshing them; I'm liberal on some issues myself, conservative on others. It's just like you say; people feel as though they have to walk on eggshells today.
