I really don't have anything that I can say I really want and/or need. As of this week, I have Soprano seasons 1 -3 on DVD and I wouldn't mind if I got 4, yet I'm open. Clothes and perfume are always a nice gift. I don't care really. What do you guys think of gift cards as Christmas gifts? They are so convenient and takes the worry out of wondering if the person will like the gift; no need to wrap them and they are nice to receive as a gifts as well. I've given them myself on certain occasions. Yet, I can't help but feel for Christmas everyone should unwrap gifts and when I do give gift cards, especially a family member, I feel like they are getting cheated. Yet, my family doesn't seem to mind. Anyone know what I mean? TIS

Depends how well you know the person, I suppose. But I don't buy gifts for people unless I know them, so I haven't, just yet, given a giftcard to someone.
I've received them, though, and totally respect that people found me hard to buy for.
TIS, one good giftcard I once got from my sister was a voucher for my local arthouse cinema. Since I was going to the cinema about five to seven times a week at that point in my life, it came in very handy. Similarly, my sister is buying for my dad this year a tattoo voucher (he loves tattoos), and I was thinking of designing him one (he's wanted me to do that for a while).

Oh yes SB. I have never heard anyone complain about receiving them. I don't mind getting them either. I guess it's just me, as far as giving them for a gift. Capo makes much sense like with his father and the tattoos, and Capo himself and the movies. Why, who would enjoy free cinema passes more than he? I would think that a perfect gift for him. I guess I find this still a little new or something. I'll get over it. Although......it's my son-in-law's birthday on the 14th. I got him a giftcard to a favorite sports store he likes, but I couldn't stand that there was nothing to open, so I went out and bought him a nice shirt too. Yea, it's just me. TIS

OK...OK... I REALLY want an official Red Ryder carbine action two-hundred shot range model air rifle with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time. That being on for 24 hours is what I'm really looking forward to this year. Oh, and going demonic Christmas caroling with some buds.
Hey, how's it going?

DeNiro, Yea, it sure is tacky. Can you imagine if someone really had that lamp in their livingroom. SC, isn't that the gun that's made in Italy? If I recall the box it came in said, "Fragile" (fragili) TIS

SC, isn't that the gun that's made in Italy? If I recall the box it came in said, "Fragile" (fragili) You're getting your gifts mixed up, TIS. The lamp came marked "Fragile". Have you ever read any of Jean Shepherd's books? (the characters from the movie are based on characters from his stories). He's absolutely hilarious - he wrote in a folksy, down-to-earth, easy-to-understand style about his growing up years in Indiana in the 1930's. I HIGHLY recommend them (there are at least four that are readily available).

I prefer a Christmas gift myself (not an Xmas gift). I understand the X to mean fill-in-your-celebration; i.e., Kwanzza-mas, Hanukkah-mas, Festivus-mas, Capitalism-mas, Greed-mas, etc....so for me it's Christmas.
Generic gift cards, like American Express typify the commercialism that Christmas has become. A store-specific gift card is better. In fact at my age I would prefer one to...lets say....Barnes and Noble or the Guitar Center. But nothing replaces a gift from the heart that is thoughtful and appropriate. That is why gift giving should be for the people you REALLY love or care for; those who are special, as was the baby Jesus when the Wisemen brought gifts to honor the new born King - the origin of the tradition of gift-giving at Christmas.
Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, whoever humbles himself will be exalted - Matthew 23:12

A bit naive on their part, really; a bit risky. They didn't know Him. He could have been anybody. Who believes gossip like they did? I bet they were all high; following a star in the sky. Its called faith.

As SC said, "faith". Kind of hard to be judgemental on something that happened 2,000 years ago. Gossip traveled slow back in those days. I wonder what the drug culture was back then. I don't recall any references to drugs in the Bible. And did you know that the star of Bethlehem was actually a conjunction of a star and a couple of planets. Imagine God working that one into the birth. What a mind!
