Outside the hospital when Michael lights Enzo's cigarette, there's a little moment (perhaps half a second) where he is watching with astonishment that his own hands are not trembling. It's just a little detail underlining how Michael discovers that he's a cool person and a born leader.

yeah I re-created this scene for my film production class, when I was a freshmen as I thought it was a great scene with little or no dialogue that revealed character and there was great tension as to what could happen next.

No question that moment is thee, but I realy thought Michael realized how well he could handle things was the way he convinced that nurse to move his father's bed to another room, and in the same scene sarcastically tell Sonny on the phont "No, I won't panic."

"Io sono stanco, sono imbigliato, and I wan't everyone here to know, there ain't gonna be no trouble from me..Don Corleone..Cicc' a port!"

"I stood in the courtroom like a fool."

"I am Constanza: Lord of the idiots."

To that point: the novel notes that Michael was "surprised" at how steady his hands were vis-a-vis Enzo's.

Another detail: Enzo da Baker was dressed pretty spiffily for a guy who was a POW just four months earlier.

He must've been making a lot of dough (groan).

Plus he had the same squeaky shoes of Luca Brasi.
