Wow, :othat's interesting. I have always paid for trash pickup, even when I lived in Michigan. I paid every three months for weekly curbside pickup and it was $60. If you have a very large item (i.e. a couch, chair, desk) you'd have to call but they would pick it up (for free). You'd get 3 times a year to remove any big items before they'd make you pay for it.

Anyway, my condo has a monhly association fee which includes our gas, water, trash, insurance for the outside of the building and any maintenance outside. There are several huge dumpster within the complex. Fortunately there is one not too far from me.

So, let me get this straight. You do have trash pick up, garbage trucks, (garbage trucks?why do I feel the need to clairfy?) that pick up only from big dumpster where evidently everyone has to walk to to throw out their trash? But, nobody pays for it because it's included in your taxes?????

TIS, when we bought our first house, we had to pay separately for trash pickup, so it was up to the individual homeowners, although a contractor would have a designated "territory". A few years later, the town contracted with the hauler and included the fees in our taxes. We're still paying, we just don't get billed directly by the contractor anymore.

Actually, we bought the house we live in now from the owner of the local "waste management" company. We were a tad nervous about what we might find when we dug for our pool.

Here in UK land our councils pick up the trash every week(as well as fortnightly collections of recycling and garden waste) but we have to pay our council taxes yearly for the privilege. My council tax bill currently stands at just shy of £900 a year
Not surprisingly it goes up every year too..but they still only collect the rubbish once a week
