At her parents' wedding (July 22, 1944); the Allied forces hit the beaches of France some seven weeks earlier; the outcome of the war was still uncertain at this time as her parents married; (from left to right: SB's grandfather, her mother - the bride, and her mom's sister):

SB's parents right after the ceremony; her dad was stationed at the Brooklyn Naval Shipyard then before being shipped out to serve in the Pacific; the war would go on for 13 months after the wedding. Imagine the uncertainty of a young bride getting married, knowing that her husband was going to fight in a war and not knowing if she'd ever see him again. Tough times! (I love that her father got married in his uniform.... it really was the best thing that a groom could wear then!)
