To get a headstart for the unit on Modernism I'm taking in September, I'm going to read two of the primary texts we are to study: Woolf's To the Lighthouse and Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man. I've wanted to read both for a while.
Why are books so fucking expensive? And why do second-hand ones satisfy me much less than new ones?

Portrait a few times, most recently in 2001. You'll get a lot out of it. I'd send you my copy, but it's pretty worn. I'd be very interested in your thoughts on it.
