I personally think Vito would have seen it as a foolish decision.

As he said "Sonny was a bad don"

Vincent was like Sonny.
I always saw it as lazy.Like eh..here you go,i have had enough.

The title of Don or Godfather 3?

Ballplayers on steroids, more boxing titles than an ant hill has ants, fake degrees over the internet, and a Don whose greatest qualification is that he can bite off someone's ear. The denouement of our society.

Vincent couldn't shine Sonny's shoes. He may have had a temper like his father, but he didn't have the talent to fight a street war like his father. Look how he bungled the whole Opera scenerio, how he failed to protect his family.

Just wondering, who's the person who voted yes in the poll?

Hell, he screwed his cousin. Madonne! For that alone Vito would have had Clemenza sit on him.

For what its worth, who else was there? Mary? lol Neri was an enforcer, not capable of being Don. It was a sort of pick your poison for Michael - either he had to keep being Don, or pretty much the Family was effed in the A. If there was anyone else Michael could have placed as Don, we would have seen them in GFIII, as they would have had to been high up in the family.

Vincent was nowhere near right for the job - still, he was the best man for it given the available field.

I agree. Vincent was no where ready for that position, but as you correctly point out, he was the best man available.

Vito would have been against Vincent being don because he was a hot head, failed to protect his family and had that fling with his cousin would have been enough to get on the wrong side of vito.

As others have said, there was no else even close to being qualified to take over Michael's position as Don in the family. Vincent was the most logical choice and I think Vito would have agreed with that. He was one of the only ones in the family who knew the history of the Corleone family.

Michael did try to impart his knowledge to Vincent in the limited time they had together.

Sometimes I think Connie could have also been Don but considering her or Vincent, I would choose Vincent.

But Connie was also going old at that time. A few years later when she was dying, who would she impart the Donship? Vincent!
But would her children be happy? Of course not, then Vincent and Connie's children will fight over the Donship, which would jeopardise the Family seriously.

One has only one destiny, he cannot choose it.

Let's face it. Vincent was really the only choice left. He was the best out of the barrel.

And it was also a way for Micheal to do the right thing, for once, on behalf of his blood family. He saw that Vincent was passionate in wanting to take over the Family, so Michael used that as an opportunity to protect his daughter from the horrors that she would have been subject to, much like her mother, if she had kept a relationship with Vincent.

Michael finally did what he had to do to protect his blood family, but it wound up being a little too late.

I think the Ant would have been a good Don, "heeeeey, my caaaar."

How many takes you figure it took Vito Antuofermo to get the sign of the cross right?

I didn't want to start another thread about this, but I noticed for the first time that at the end of GFII as Michael is sitting in comtemplation that he is still wearing his wedding ring. I thought that contrasted with his exclusion of Kay from his life.

He's a sweetheart. I've met him half a dozen times up in Yonkers at the PAL boxing gym. I loved him as a fighter, too. He showed Hagler nothing but heart.

Vincent was a terrible choice. Sleeping with your first cousin is AN INFAMNIA. Vito would have had Luca introduce Vincent's manhood to a wood chipper.

Somebody axed who was the person who voted yes....now its up to three. They are: Fredo, Roth and his Sicilian messenger boy Johnny Ola.
