I think Jesus was mentioned a couple times.

That happened to our priest a couple of sundays ago during mass. He must have forgotten to turn his cell phone off and it started to ring in the middle of mass. So he picks it up and says "Hello? Yes God, it is me. What? Oh of course, we're having a mass in your honor as we speak!" And the whole congregation cracked up.

It's funny how people who mean everything to you can be completely gone from your life a month later. I haven't spoken to my ex-girlfriend in weeks, and my best friend moved back to Germany the other day.

I am lonely once again.

And I haven't spoken to my ex-girlfriend in a few years.... and it's wonderful!

She's coming with me to see Bob Dylan on the 11th. Bow down to her on Sunday, salute her when her birthday comes!

My cousin recently put a bunch of old family videos on DVD, so I watched a bit - really old stuff from before I was born, of my parents and both sets of grandparents.

All of it was fun to see, but what was really special was watching video of my dad's parents, who both passed away before I could know them. I think all I'd before seen of them were photographs, so this was amazing. There was no sound, but seeing them move around, talking and laughing with my parents...and my grandpa's expressions and gestures reminding me so much of how my dad is...wow. My dad and my cousin's dad were pretending to fight in the video, and they all looked so happy together. I'm so glad we have some kind of record of the past...especially what I missed out on.

Wow, my parents recently did this same thing and put a bunch of soundless videos on dvd. I think it was from 8mm videos and vhs, but I could be wrong. Although, the thing that stood out to me was, when I was a baby in a stroller, looking cute, our family dog picked up a kitten that our family cat had, and wandered off into the house with it. When I pointed that out, my parents never saw that because they were focused on the cute little baby. The kitten lived so I'm told.

We had that done some years ago and its a good thing we did... the old 8mm film had been deteriorating pretty badly (considering that it was over 50 years old). I watch the tape every so often and almost always get very emotional (seeing all those family members no longer alive).

That's great, SC. I'd never even known about the video we had until my cousin told me - I'm glad he was able to preserve it for us. Makes me think about the same situation happening for future generations...my kids and grandkids will have so much more to hear and see of the past with there currently being such great technology. As long as we don't lose our digital pictures in some computer disaster. haha

Today I opened up a 'time capsule' that I'd put together as a class assignment in 5th grade. It was meant to be opened after HS graduation. Most of the stuff inside was junk, but a few letters, cards, and misc. items were great to rediscover - it made me think about how things of the present become so important later on, and how fun it is to look back on how things used to be.

Yes, from what my parents have told me (And I have no reason to not believe them) that dog took very good care of babies, including myself. According to my Mom, she left me in the living room for a minute and then came back to me with a dog bone on the floor in front of me, and the dog chewing a bone next to me. The dog went to the cupboard and got two bones, one for me and one for him. I don't remember this for myself, but I think it is part of why I love animals to this day.

These are wonderful ideas. I don't know that any of my relatives have home movies like this. It is a good idea how technology makes it so much easier to relive and enjoy our past. This way we can enjoy our memories for all time.

How cute SC!!! Thank God for pictures/film hu? How in the world did you get the picture? Did you take it with a regular camera??

A few years ago I had all my 8mm movies from when my kids were little put on DVD and it's great. My parents had all of our home movies from when I was a kid put on VHS(need to switch it to DVD) and that's wonderful too. Try and find a movie projector sometime?

Also added to the family DVD my parents sent me is a real treasure. It's about a minute or two clip from my parents engagement party, which was approximately 1940 (they got married in 41 but were engaged for 3 years :o) Anyway, shows my mother who was 16/17 and my father AND both my grandfathers who were both dead before I was born, not to mention so many other relatives, aunts/uncles when they were very very young. Boy, I treasure it. I wish it were longer.

My nephew had transferred all the old 8mm films to videotape... I copied the videotape to a DVD and when playing it on my PC I just screen captured that one frame above.




Be thankful you have that (but I know what you mean about wishing the clip was longer). My parents had film of them at the 1939 New York World's Fair that deteriorated so badly over the years that it became unable to view. Seeing them together, so young, and seeing the World's Fair exhibits was wonderful but extremely sad to know that the film was lost (because of its condition).

I treasure the DVD I have now.... its got about a minute of my dad picking me up and swinging me around when I was about a year old. Amidst the trees of Prospect Park here was this guy, so young and vibrant and black hair having fun with his baby... I get choked up every time I see it.

SC, How wonderful that you have the ones you do. We love to look at some old films and photos. I'm sorry that you lost the film that you did. They are a treasure.

SC, just as a side note; I don't know if back in the 30's 40's not everyone had or could afford movie cameras or what, but my parents never had film of that party (nor of their wedding- pictures but not movies). Anway it wasn't til I was about 16 years old when my mothers uncle, Frank Pellegrino, from Detroit came to visit and said he had a short segment from my parents' anniversary party on 8 mm. I assume it was him that "spliced" (?) that portion of film to one of my parents who eventually had it on VHS. They were thrilled as well to see their own parents alive and well in that small clip. Had Uncle Frank never said anything, or made the effort to give them to my parents, I'd never would have seen my Grandfathers alive and well. I'm getting to sentimental now.

Nice picture SC. It's really great, although sad at times, to be able to veiw pictures and videos from the past and to once again see those that are close to your heart, especially the ones that are no longer with us.

I'll tend to agree with the "cute baby" reverence to SC, I just have one question: what happened?

I can't tell just from this picture SC, but your grandfather appears to have a touch of Frank Vincent to him.
