From BankruptcyData.com:

Ronco Chapter 11 Petition Filed

Ronco and three affiliated Debtors filed for Chapter 11 protection with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in the Central District of California (San Fernando Valley Division), case #: 07-12000. The Company is represented by Stacia A Neeley of Klee, Tuchin, Bogdanoff and Stern. Effective April 27, 2007, the Company's board authorized, via unanimous written consent, its chief restructuring officer to make this Chapter 11 filing. Ronco is involved in the marketing and distribution of kitchen products and markets its products primarily in the United States through infomercials, internet advertising, its in-house customer service department, telemarketing and sales to retailers both directly and through wholesale distributors.

The big question is:

Will the Chapter 11 filing slash the price of the Showtime Rotisserie Oven? That is my favorite infomercial of all time. Ron Popeil, I thought, was the greatest pitchman of his time.

Ron could sell anything. My favorite was GLH-9. "Hair in a Can".
I could watch those infomercials with the people spray painting their heads over and over.

I read a syndicated columnist once who described Popeil's appearance on the cable shopping network QVC. Popeil told producers he expected and hoped to sell "x" number of rotisseries during his 60 minute segment. They scoffed at him, saying that no seller ever came close to that number on the network. When the segment started, Ron was a dynamo. He had dozens of ovens cooking everything from pot roasts to hot dogs.

He turned into a whirling dirvish on the air. At the half way point he had half his number sold. The producers didn't think he could keep up the selling pace. When the hour finished, he exceeded his number by 20%.

Do you know if his daughter was still involved in the company?

I don't know if the daughter is still involved. Ronco was bought by private equity a couple of years ago and it sounded like Ron Popeil himself was only marginally involved.

And with Baltimore hiring the bullpen coach as interim manager this should really be a slugfest.

I'd guess I'm not the only one wishing I'd gone against the pack with a different pick - could've really paid off.

LAD (30) with Penny...or MIN (29) with Santana would've been great.

Aww! I just saw this. Thanks.

Seriously, I haven't screamed at the TV that much and been so angry about a game in a long time.

I really don't understand it. Qualls gave up five runs in that inning to allow them to tie it up. Two runs were credited to Sampson who had been pulled, but it's freakin' Qualls that screwed everything up. What amazes me is that Garner let him ruin the whole thing without ever thinking about taking him out. It's like he enjoys seeing him self-destruct. Based on what I always see in other games, I'd bet just about any other manager would've had him out far before the Angels could tie the game. And because the winning run came in the 9th, Qualls didn't even get the loss. Yes, I was angry. Apparently I still am. haha

CS, I'm sure you've heard/read...

"Cubs deal Barrett to Padres
Chicago gets catcher Bowen, Minor Leaguer in return"

Article

This makes me dislike the Cubs less. Should I be worried about that? ;\)

"Cubs general manager Jim Hendry said Barrett's arguments this month with pitchers Carlos Zambrano and Rich Hill had nothing to do with the deal."

Hmmm...

In the same article, Cubs general manager Jim Hendry revealed that he reads Playboy for the articles. \:p

For whatever reason, both Chicago teams have/had nut-job catchers who love the attention.

I walk around Oriole Park during my lunch break. Today I turned a corner and walked right past Mike Flanigan getting out of his car and going into the offices. He was probably one of the top pitchers of The Orioles grand days. I will never forget the aura around the last game played at old Memorial Stadium. The crowd was cheering Flanigan's name to be put in the game. I think if he hadn't the whole stadium would have charged the field..haha. The last inning of the last game the bullpen gate opens and Mike strolls onto the field. It was a very touching moment. I know The Orioles were losing, but no one cared about the score. Mike could have given up a grand slam and he would have still been cheered. Now that he's part of the top management of the suck ass O's he doesn't get the same treatment. \:\)
