I never saw any conclusive evidence, either. As discussed many times before, Vito is a composite of several NY Mafia dons. The one he comes closest to, IMO, is Frank Costello, who was a lifelong partner with Meyer Lansky. Charlie Luciano, founder of the Commission, was like a brother to Lansky and Ben Siegel. Other NYC Dons, like Vito Genovese and Joe Bonanno, refused to closely associate with Jews or any non-Italians.

No bar-mitzveh either and Connie's wedding was definitely not a Jewish wedding. Not one of the Don's soldiers was Jewish and they all apparently worked on Saturdays. Then there's the infamous command by Don Corleone: "Give it to a Jew Congressman in another district." Madonne! In all fairness to Don Corleone, only Italians (mainly Sicilians) can be inducted into thier (and all other) Italian families.

Is it like that nowadays too or more loose about ethnicity?

Its much looser.. Back in the early 1900's there were Germian, Irish, Jewish, Italian etc sections of New York, and they barely overlapped.
True story ... the Chinese and Jewish sections of New York were both on the lower east side, and the Jewish people had never had anything like Chinese food before, and many of them developed an affinity for it because it was such a novelty.

By the 1960's, the neighborhoods were pretty mixed, except for one or two neighborhoods that were Italian. Pretty much everyone was Catholic, but St. Anthony's was still heavily Italian, St. Mary's was mostly Irish and St. Kasimir's was Slovak. Everyone pretty much went to each others' picnics, and occasionally we'd go to the different churhes with friends' families. I don't recall any ethnic issues. Today, there is no ethnic affiliation with the churches and it's more uncommon to find full-blooded Irish or Italians. Reading the local papers are funny in that you now frequently see names like Brendan Fanelli or Gianni Yablonski.

I mean as far as I know the Corleone family is italian, and if Connie is italian, and marries and italian, then why would the family have a jewish wedding if they are catholic?

I think in a very small degree, it's similar to the feelings of the Black American male who sees the tall blonde white woman as the ultimate "prize". Where exactly did you read or see this interview? Two Jewish actors, James Caan and Abe Vigoda, played Italian characters. An Italian, Alex Rocco, played a Jewish character (Moe Greene). Don Cardi

TB - I hate to point you out as wrong -
But John Turturro was featured in "6 Day War - 6 Days till Christmas", a Hallmark holiday special, where he did in fact play Golda Meir (Mabovitz), as well as the ghost of Nicolo Telsa, who - using manipulation of electricity has come back from the dead to steal Christmas and help Nassar and Syria to victory during their attack on Israel.
The tele-drama didn't do well with test audiences - and was shown only in very limited markets

So in a way Mike was fighting for the jews so i doubt he had any prejudice towards them. Just because someone served in WWII hardly means they weren't anti-Semitic (or homophobic, or anti-gypsy, etc.). The military didn't exactly recruit by saying, "Save the Jews." It was framed as a fight to defend freedom and our way of life. Sound familiar? Also, despite the urging of a very popular FDR, the majority of the American public was strongly OPPOSED to fighting Hitler. It took the attack on Pearl Harbor to get America (and Michael) involved.
