The more I think about this episode, the more I am angry with the way that the relationship between Tony and Melfi was handled. I feel that it was rather contrived, that it was very against her character, almost as if they had pulled the excuse out of thin air. I know that they've been building towards it over the last episode or two, mentioning the study, but it still seemed forced, and something that was completely out of character for Melfi.



I don't agree. Melfi has been contemplating dropping Tony for a few seasons now. Yes it was cold of her to drop him like that. But in the past she's been somewhat afraid of him. It was almost as if she kept treating him out of fear. This episode she seemed to have finally worked up the courage to stand up to him and basically tell him "Fuck you, I'm not afraid of you anymore."

The're showing us that NO ONE seems to be taking him serious anymore. That no one is afraid of him anymore.

It was an excellent scene. A fitting ending to their relationship.
