You have to keep in mind that stations are buying their fuel from a very small universe of suppliers. So, they are all paying about the same price for wholesale fuel. A station will raise prices (or lower them) then see if traffic increases or decreases. Drivers tend to patronize the same gas stations. Few will rearrange their driving route to save what ends up being a few cents per gallon.

Latest price in my area (nearest gas stations) $3.45 & $3.53. I am starting to feel the crunch. I find myself, other than going to work and back, thinking about if I want to go somewhere if I don't have to.

All these people who have these big RV's thinking it saves money on a nice vacation, but damn, with what money you'd use to put gas in it, you'd probably only be able to afford to go to the other end of the city. It's really a shame.

My gas prices are now $2.93. I've never remembered such price fluctuations and disparities of prices among gas stations in the same regions.

I am paying about $3.15 a gallon. Trying hard to spend $25 a week and just being careful how much driving I do.

The radio reported this morning that there is a price gouging fine in Jersey - $50 - $3,000. They should add a few more zeroes. I paid $2.81 this morning. That's pretty much the lowests I've seen.

But to demonstrate how whacky this whole thing is; this past weekend I was in Nor'east Pennsylvania.
Gas Station #1 Saturday $2.98; Sunday $2.95
Gas Station #2 Saturday $2.89; Sunday $2.95

Go figger.

Me and the Col. filled up his his truck today at 3.09 it took 60 bucks to fill it up. While we were there some asshole wearing a cowboy hat was cussing up one side and down the other the man who was delivering the gas. Like it is his fault the prices are way out of control What a jerk!!!!

$3.09/gallon has finally come to my part of PA. The soaring gas prices, among other things, could cripple the economy.

In Northeast Ohio, gas prices went from $3.05 to $3.49 yesterday. Complete and utter bullshit.

A gas station on Long Island had a price-rollback for a few hours today. They charged $2.27/gallon (regular) which is about a $1.00 below what everyone else is charging. The line extended about a mile long for customers waiting for the cheaper gas (they started lining up hours before the promotion started).

Ya know something?? As much as I bitch and moan about the high price of gas today I wouldn't stand on line for 5 or 6 hours to save the $9.00 it would take to fill up my tank. \:\/

I don't recall what state it took place in, but about a week or two ago, BP started a promotion for Seniors and Students, charging them 2 or 3 cents less per gallon on certain days. Turns out that some government official decided that it was a form of discrimination and the government forced BP to pull their promotion. \:\/

And I agree with you about the waiting for 6 hours to save $9 theory. I'd pay $9 more just NOT to wait in line!

Well, in my area it is anywhere from $3.29 - $3.41. If I lived closer I would walk to work, and if I knew someone who lived in my city I'd carpool. You know that'll it'll go up this weekend.

TRENTON, N.J. -- Drivers in New Jersey are enjoying the nation's lowest gas prices, just in time for the holiday weekend.

AAA reported that it's the only state where the average gallon of gas costs less than $3. That's due in part to lower taxes. An American Petroleum Institute report found in March that people in New Jersey pay about 30 cents a gallon in state and federal taxes. That's the third-lowest rate in the country.

New Jersey motorists also benefit from in-state oil refineries. AAA said having them nearby helps keep industry transportation costs down.

Prices at New Jersey pumps are about 50 cents less per-gallon than states with the highest prices, which are Illinois, Michigan, Indiana and California.

$3.49 Gas Common Today in Ohio-- Gasoline prices are inflicting a new level of pain in Ohio. Service stations all around the state are now selling regular-grade gas for three dollars and 49 cents per gallon, according to GasBuddy-dot-com.

The Web site's information is based on reports from consumers.

Experts had predicted that already-high gas prices would rise even further this week ahead of the Memorial Day weekend, when the unofficial start of the summer driving season typically brings an increase in demand for fuel.

The Triple-A says regular gas is selling for an average of about three dollars and 23 cents statewide, and the auto club says that's a record high.

Last weekend I was down in South Jersey on Rt 38 (I think). Anyway, there was a station selling regular for $2.77. The line for gas was at least 10-15 cars long. While the station down the road selling it for $2.89 had no wait. They're probably waiting 30 minutes or more to save a $1 or 2.

Let's give up the ghost. We are never going to reduce our dependence on oil until we start driving less and that is not going to start to happen until gas prices really go through the roof like $6-7. Then it will only start. Not everybody will reduce their driving. Then if prices do go down, they will only go down to a certain level which will be much higher than we are paying right now. We're not going to drill domestically until that happens and then we will have to reconcile ourselves to the fact that any domestic drilling will only bear fruit a decade from when it starts. We are in love with the internal combustion machine. All this alternative fuel stuff is crap. If it were not we would be using it now. We are stuck!

Gee, it's kind of pathetic when $2.97 sounds like a bargain isn't it?

It's $3.35 by me, but I do know a further station with $3.17. Went down a whole penny. That helps a lot.
