I think that the tragedy of GF3 is the fact that it had the potential to be a great film, but missed its mark, due in part to storylines that drifted in bad directions, and some miscasting (obviously George and Sofia).
There's absolutely nothing wrong with the religious ceremony and party, and I don't think that there was anything wrong in bringing in Vincent, if only they had even mentioned Connie's boys and Sonny's other children. Why bring in Tom's son, and then act like the rest of the family doesn't exist?
I thought that Andy Garcia did a fine job with his role. I enjoyed Joe Mantegna as Zaza. I was happy to see Johnny and Al. Even the baker was still around. Nice consistency. Even the Vatican thing was ok.
However, I think that the wagon fell off the wheels with the introduction of the incest storyline. Maybe a better actress could've carried it off, but I doubt it.
The frustrating thing about GF3 was that it had great moments, which gave us an inkling of what could have been. It's like seeing something shiny in the mud, just a flash and it's gone.

KC [/qb]
I still cannot understand how Apple can even give an opinion of a movie that she has NEVER ever sat through from begining to end! Don Cardi [/QB]
I am reminded here of a famous George Bernard Shaw line. A young writer had sent Shaw an original manuscript, seeking the great critc's opinion of his work. Shaw scathingly panned the book and returned it to the young writer, who immediately advised Shaw that he could not possibly have read the whole book because the aspiring writer had purposely pasted two pages together, and they remained pasted when Shaw returned the book. Shaw replied, "I don't have to eat a whole egg to know it's rotten!" That said, I don't think GIII is a bad movie. It has its problems (George Hamilton is no Duvall...and the love affair between cousins is awkward...and it certainly can't stand with its predecessors), but I still watch it.

That's just the Catholic Church for you. I'm not going to go bashing Catholicism (as I have in the past, but I've done it with many religions), but it's the way it works. Sin, sin, sin, confess, repent. The problem is, many people don't repent and that's what makes them a good/bad Catholic. The Catholic Church teaches us that if you truly have repented from your sins, your sins will be forgiven, as God forgives anyone if they have truly repented from their sins. What is so wrong with that? If someone is genuinely sorry for something that they have done wrong, why shouldn't they be forgiven?

You are leaving out one important factor, and that is you have to confess your sins to God, through the priest in confession, who is taking the place of God, when you are confessiong. This is one of the 7 sacraments instituted by Christ to forgive sin. So just being sorry isnt enough, you have to tell the priest each and every one.

I myself attended a Catholic University and then taught in a Catholic school for a couple of years (both taking place a great lot of time ago): I never had to dress myself like a nun. I dressed and had a facial make up like any 20/30 years old girl did then and nobody ever questioned. I think it's a matter of taste and a limit must be fixed, anyway. If girls and teachers wear gynecological miniskirts or pubic hair showing trousers, well they should be reproached, IMO.

I was in Catholic school only from 4th grade thru 8th, and although I agree, the nuns were very strict, I don't every remember anyone getting reprimanded for their attire. However, we had uniforms (which I hated), and that probably was part of the reason. I have heard many times about the patent leather shoes, and nuns hitting your hand with a ruler/yardstick or something like that, but in my school anyway, I never saw or experienced anything like that. Maybe a high school was different than middle school in that respec though. TIS

TIS I think Catholic school experiences vary from time and place. My experiences were in the 50's in Philadelphia.

Looking back, I think Catholic School, although I didn't like it, was much more difficult (academically) than public school. My grades were worse in Catholic school than public school. My family belonged to an Italian parish where nearly everyone was Italian, including the Priest & nuns. All of them spoke broken English (I can't say for me that was a deterrent though, as many of my old time relatives spoke broken English as well.) The order of nuns, which I had only seen at my parish was "Consolata (?)", wearing grey habits. All the names were Italian like: Sisters, Sebastiana, Celestia, Gianna, and our Priest was Fr. Davanzo. We use to have a yearly festival, where a huge crucifix was carried down the street several blocks, and of course, Italian food games, rides in the church parking lot. We'd call it "The Feast" and it was like a holiday. My grandmother lived just down the street from the church so we could keep running back for more money for the games/food. It was a lot of fun actually. Sorry for going on. This sparked the memory. TIS
