Federal prosecutors called former Gambino crime boss John A. (Junior) Gotti a "co-conspirator" in the slaying of a Bonnie and Clyde-like team that was robbing Mafia social clubs.

Gotti has never been charged with ordering the Christmas Eve 1992 killings of Thomas and Rosemarie Uva, and the government asserted only in court papers that he had "after-the-fact knowledge and endorsement" of their deaths.

But as jury selection got underway yesterday in the trial of reputed Gambino soldier Dominick (Skinny Dom) Pizzonia, prosecutors filed a letter describing Gotti as "a co-conspirator." Pizzonia is charged with rubbing out the couple on a Queens street.

The prosecutors also revealed that cooperating witness Anthony Ruggiano will testify that Gambino capo Nicholas Corozzo, who is not charged in the murders, told Ruggiano that a member of the Uva hit team was being proposed for membership in the crime family ahead of him.

Gotti's attorney Charles Carnesi denied Gotti had anything to do with the hits. "He was unaware of it at the time and he was not a participant," Carnesi said.

Another Mafia rat is expected to testify that Gotti told then-Bonanno crime boss Joseph Massino, "We took care of it," referring to the Uva murders

=============================================================

How can they name him as a co-conspirator but not charge him?

Don Cardi cool

Five - ten years from now, they're gonna wish there was American Cosa Nostra. Five - ten years from now, they're gonna miss John Gotti.

The feds are famous for the "un-indicted co-conspiracy."

Maybe Don T or Klydon can explain.

What do those two Pezzanovantes know! \:p

Seriously though, I would like one of them to explain this to me if they can.

Read very carefully: Unless "Junior" has, in fact, secretly cooperated, the feds will NEVER be done with him. Their memories match the size of their wallets. They have nothing but time.

Here's another article from today's NY Post:

April 11, 2007 -- If you thought a wiseguy would let things slide after getting caught with his pants down, fuhgeddaboudit.

Reputed Gambino soldier Dominick "Skinny Dom" Pizzonia killed a daring-but-dumb husband-and-wife duo after they stuck up his mob social club, robbed a coffee klatch of gangsters of their cash and pinky rings, and then - in a final mocking act - made the wiseguys strip to their skivvies, prosecutors charged yesterday.

Thomas Uva, 28, "came into the club, held up Pizzonia and others . . . took their jewelry and money, and then made the men in the club drop their pants," Assistant U.S. Attorney Joey Lipton told jurors in Brooklyn federal court, during opening arguments in Pizzonia's murder and racketeering trial.

"There's virtually no greater insult than robbing the Gambino family where they socialized and hung out," he said.

The Uvas hit about 10 mob social clubs throughout the city during a yearlong crime spree in 1992. Thomas would bust into the unlocked clubs wielding an Uzi; his wife, Rosemarie, 31, drove the getaway car.

But they didn't get away for long.

Prosecutors say Pizzonia, 65, and two accomplices tailed the couple as they drove down Woodhaven Boulevard in Queens on Christmas Eve 1992, and shot both burglars three times in the head.

They were "left in the street as an example of what happens when you cross the Gambino family," said Lipton.

Pizzonia was charged with the murders in 2005, nearly 13 years after the Uvas' slumped-over bodies were found inside the idling Mercury Topaz.

Other gangsters attempted to take credit for wiping out the Bonnie-and-Clyde duo, who hit Bonanno and Gambino social clubs indiscriminately.

But John "Junior" Gotti, acting boss of the Gambino family, told former Bonanno boss Joseph Massino, "We took care of it," when asked about the foolhardy couple, prosecutors have said.

Although the government won't present any witnesses to the actual murder, Lipton said he plans to use Pizzonia's own words against him.

"Pizzonia admits it," Lipton said. The killings were "a source of pride on the street and the Gambino family and Pizzonia wanted their due."

Pizzonia also is charged, along with his co-defendant, Alfred DiCongilio, of murdering a small-time hoodlum named Frank Boccia, who made a habit of slapping around his own mother-in-law - who happened to be the wife of a Gambino capo.

"Hitting your mother-in-law is bad, but when it's the wife of a made member of organized crime, it's fatal," Lipton said.

Lipton said he plans to call an eyewitness to the murder.

But both defendants' lawyers say the government has nothing on their clients.

"[Lipton] has to present evidence, not flowery language," said Pizzonia's lawyer, Joseph Corozzo. "Bring the witnesses!" he charged.

And the witnesses the government does have, he said, are all cooperators who squirmed out of their own sentences by giving up Pizzonia.

You got that right, PB! Not that I have any sympathy for that gavone, but Junior could join a cloistered monastary and the Feds would still be after him.
