I too am not a believer in marinating a good piece of meat. It drives me nuts when I see people put ketchup or BBQ sauce on a good piece of Filet Mignon, New York Cut, Sirloin or a Rib Steak. Goos cuts of meat only need an olive oil rubdown before being put on the barbeque. A New York Cut or a Sirloin will sometimes get a dip in breadcrumbs after the olive oil rub, but that's about it. NO SAUCES!
However I do marinate my Flank steaks. And usually for about 24 hours. I tend to favor marinating them with a sesame/garlic based teriyaki sauce.
