Ok, young Vito sits at the table with Clemenza and Tessio discussing how to not pay the $200 bux.

I'm confused. I'm assuming Abe Vigoda's Tessio is supposed to be the same Tessio at the table with young Vito (considering Brando and Vigoda are both of a similar age in the movie). But who is Clemenza? Is Clemenza who makes the spaghetti sauce and meatballs the same Clemenza that was sitting with Young Vito (the one who stole the rug with him)?? Or is he his son?? Cause Clemenza (who makes the spaghetti) doesn't seem to be of the same age as Brando and Vigoda (Vito, Tessio)

This is driving me crazy. I'm new to the GF movies. I've seen them about 7 times each and I'm still catching on.

Welcome to the boards Clayton. Clemenza and Tessio of part-1 and part-2 flashback scenes are the same characters. I think that the GF2 actors were chosen more for their resemblance to the GF actors.

Thanks for the welcome!

So Tessio wound up starting his own 'family' and Clemenza stayed loyal to Vito and his family? But Clemenza looked so much younger LOL. Must be the special spaghetti sauce recipe.

No sorry, wait a minute. Tessio was true to Vito for a long time but at the end he betrayed him and that's why they killed him. Clemenza never betrayed.

The book is good, too.

Vito, Clemenza and Tessio were contemporaries, and were about the same age. The actors who played Tessio and Clemenza in their youth in GFII were chosen, in part, because they bore some general resemblance to Abe Vigoda and Richard Castellano in GF.

The scene that you cited is one of the most important in the entire GF Trilogy because it shows Vito, who previously was almost shy and retiring, deciding to take his fate in his hands and start on a life of crime by killing Fanucci. It also shows an important transition among the three pals: By being the only one who has the coglioni to stand up to Fanucci, Vito asserts himself as the boss of the trio, instead of Clemenza. Note that, previously, Clemenza was acting like a bigshot, and bossing Vito around. If you own the DVD set, you will find a couple of deleted scenes on the extras disc that are very revealing: After the dress robbery, Clemenza makes Vito wait in the truck while he has sex with one of the women he's selling dresses to, then orders Vito to make more deliveries. But in another deleted scene, after Vito kills Fanucci, Clemenza is very humble (doffing his hat in Vito's presence) as he introduces the young Hyman Roth.

Hmmmm interesting. I'd like to get the DVD Set, but I'm not sure of which one to get or even if there is more than one. I want the one with the deleted scenes.

The first time I saw Part II, even even during some repeated viewings, I was confused as to who was who. I thought the bushy eye-browed guy was Tessio (obviously since Vagoda's eye-brows look like caterpillars) but that was Genco.

You need to buy the boxed DVD set with all three movies PLUS the extras disc. Check here:

I have the boxed set, it's nice, but if the Godfather Saga ever comes out I'll buy that too, because I want everything in chronological order, even the deleted scenes.

I just checked netflix and it lists a bonus disk that can be rented separately from the movies. This may be the bonus disk with the deleted scenes. I'll see if it is when it arrives and let you all know.

Well it turns out that the bonus disc that netflix offers does show all the deleted scenes. Pretty cool.

As Death said, yes. it's the bonus disk. If you click on Godfather it will say 'bonus material available separately' and that takes you to the disk.

One thing I found interesting about the young Clemenza, is that he would freely shout and holler at Vito when he didn't agree with him. But after Vito killed Ciccio...Clemenza never did again...which I think is indicative of Clemenza's overall loyalty and admiration of Vito, which would be proved by him never selling out

I wondered who exactly it was with Vito when he killed Don Cicci. Wasn't it Genco? I think that was his name? Who else went?

Don Tomasino takes Vito to see Cicci. I think there's at least one other person in the car.

I think Hollywood meant Fanucci instead of Ciccio. We don't see any flashback scene with Clemenza after Vito killes Don Ciccio.

Yes, Fanucci, My mistake.

But Hey Ciccio too, when Clemenza heard about that, Vito would have gone even higher in his estimations
