The Tennessee Center for Policy Research, an independent, nonprofit and nonpartisan research organization, issued a press release late Monday:
Last night, Al Gore’s global-warming documentary, An Inconvenient Truth, collected an Oscar for best documentary feature, but the Tennessee Center for Policy Research has found that Gore deserves a gold statue for hypocrisy.
Gore’s mansion, [20-room, eight-bathroom] located in the posh Belle Meade area of Nashville, consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year, according to the Nashville Electric Service (NES).
In his documentary, the former Vice President calls on Americans to conserve energy by reducing electricity consumption at home.
The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, Gore devoured nearly 221,000 kWh—more than 20 times the national average.
Last August alone, Gore burned through 22,619 kWh—guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of his energy consumption, Gore’s average monthly electric bill topped $1,359.
Since the release of An Inconvenient Truth, Gore’s energy consumption has increased from an average of 16,200 kWh per month in 2005, to 18,400 kWh per month in 2006.
Gore’s extravagant energy use does not stop at his electric bill. Natural gas bills for Gore’s mansion and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year.
“As the spokesman of choice for the global warming movement, Al Gore has to be willing to walk to walk, not just talk the talk, when it comes to home energy use,” said Tennessee Center for Policy Research President Drew Johnson.
In total, Gore paid nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for his Nashville estate in 2006.

In other news, they've just diverted part of Niagara falls to power the Hillary Clinton Election Campaign headquarters, which is operating 'round the clock trying to find ways to win back its Hollywood contingency without using racial epithets towards Obama. NEWS FLASH: Obama has just issued a press release saying that if Hillary Clinton, Al Gore and Dick Cheney get liposuction there will be enough fat that can be burned to heat all of new England for the next 100 years.

What does he do for a living now? Last I remember, he was teaching and on the lecture circuit. Lectures, books and he also bought a ton of Google stock when it was an IPO

Why is it surprising, a house with 20 rooms and 8 bathrooms will definitely consume LOT more power than a 2-bedroom apt. You do need to heat/cool so many rooms, don't you? What is the point in comparing with the national average? I agree. What's the big surprise? A better question: why is it a big deal how much energy he uses when surely the White House most deffinately uses a rather similar figure? Oh, that's right. It's all about party-loyality. It's always about party-loyalty in the end.

So... Party-loyalty?
I mean, the BB has never struck me as being a large body of environmentalists. This is so clearly about party loyalty. So, he's not practicing what he's preaching, but how many other politicians can we say the same about? I could probably name dozens if I cared enough to apply myself to it, research, and so on. Even without putting in an effort, I can already name a hefty load.

God damn it, there it goes again! "Argue". I was just off in my little corner complaining with another member how the majority of this board cannot distinguish the difference between a debate and an argument! Gah. Everyone here takes any comment regarding politics, religion, current events, or any other related topic as a personal stab, and turns a potentially interesting a enjoyable debate into a piss-covered snowball fight. I mean, I like a good debate. I find them fun, interesting, and amusing. It's nice to exchange views with someone else in a playfully-confrontational way, knowing that you're not actually going to change the other sides opinion, but deciding to just go along with it anyways. I love that, but everyone, as of late, just seems to go off and take things way too seriously, and then they step over a line and get potentially good threads locked. It's completely ridiculous and immature, and makes me laugh when some of the older members here treat the 16-19ish posting demographic like children. Blah.
But, I suppose I'll spare you my bitch-fest.
All I'm trying to figure out is, how is it a surprise in any way that bigger buildings=bigger energy bills? Sure, it'd be wiser to use solar-paneling or an alternative energy source, but this is about as shocking to me as a nude picture of Paris Hilton.
Sorry if I can't manage to formulate a decent sentence, I'm completely worn out from hours of tedious studying.

And from taking showers.... llc brought up a good point here. Too many of the religion/political based discussions get turned around into personal attacks. Granted that many of these subjects are near and dear to us; they go the very crux of our core values, and many of us are passionate about our beliefs. Thats still no excuse, though, for being intolerant of, or demeaning to others' beliefs. If you feel you can't stop yourself from making a snide remark to another's beliefs please stay out of these discussions.

And from taking showers.... I'm still completely out of it, it took me a few moments to get that. I thought you were trying to say I haven't been taking showers, and that I am dirty. Then I remembered the joke I made in the post-whoring thread... I'll be in the corner trying to think up a witty response.

I'm still surprised it has to be overlooked. It's a 20 room house. My house has 12 rooms if you include the foyer, three of those rooms are bathrooms. I bet one of his rooms is about two or more times the size of a room you'd find in my house, or any of your homes. It's all proportionate.
It's just common sense. Bigger house means bigger bill. My feeling is that these are just a bunch of statistics put together by a right-winged reporter in a red state (Tennesse) with some sort of beef or disapproval of Gore. Besides, let's not let this over-shadow more important matters concerning real enviornmental issues.
