[quote=Turnbull '60, but he didn't discourage his followers from attempting to "draft" him. A last-minute demonstration for Stevenson on the convention floor in LA nearly derailed JFK's nomination. [/quote]

I remember that "draft" Stevenson moment watching the 60 convention on television. I believe none other than Eleanor Roosevelt placed his name in nomination, and suddenly the floor was filled with "Stevenson" placards, etc. This of course when nominating conventions actually meant something and this was the left wing of the party using its last gasp to stop JFK.

It is correct that JFK rarely had cabinet meetings. Other than
Robert MacNamara and rarely Rusk, he relied on his inner circle of White House advisers, and his brother (who was in the cabinet).

I also seem to recall that the republicans tried to smear Stevenson by alleging he was a homosexual.

"Io sono stanco, sono imbigliato, and I wan't everyone here to know, there ain't gonna be no trouble from me..Don Corleone..Cicc' a port!"

"I stood in the courtroom like a fool."

"I am Constanza: Lord of the idiots."
