I don't know if I never opened this thread originally, but seeing the fist post with the picture of The Rolling Stones "Hot rocks" album broght back some memories. I distinctly remember my sisters having that album. I had a bad flash back of those years. lol

Speaking of the Stones, I had their very first album and back the olden days (1964 or so) I brought it to a party and never go it back. frown It was good too. If I recall it had Spider and the Fly, I Know It's Only Rock & Roll. I guess I could have bought another album, but hell for $2.49 who has that kind of money. lol

(I say 2.49 because one time going through my old albums that I have with me, I saw one by the Kinks and the price tag was still on it.)

My favorite album ever is The Who's "Tommy - A Rock Opera." More specifically, the live version played at Leeds, England in 1970; it's more energized and lively than the studio version. It's possibly the best live album I've ever heard in terms of sound quality - "Tommy" is on disc two of the band's two-disc Live at Leeds album. More to come on this...

This thread always comes back out of nowhere.

2008's only half done, so here is half of a yearly top ten, no order:

-For Emma, Forever Ago Bon Iver
-Alopecia Why?
-Blue, Yellow & Red Born Ruffians
-13 Blues for Thirteen Moons A Silver Mt. Zion
-Vampire Weekend Vampire Weekend

Download them, purchase them, borrow them from a friend, ask me to put them up for download, steal them from the record store, do what you have to do.

Elvis Presley performed before a worldwide television audience of over one billion people on January 14, 1973. The soundtrack from this performance, Aloha From Hawaii, was released on February 4, 1973. It reached number one on both the pop and country charts selling close to five million copies in the United States alone, and almost twelve million worldwide. Oddly the concert was not broadcast on American television until April of that year.

Lilo, that was a big record in the 70s (I don't know if you were alive back then), and it got a lot of playing time in our hose.

Of course, "Sir Duke" was the big hit from the album, followed by "I Wish" and "Isn't She Lovely." But "Ebony Eyes" was also a less played song that I liked a lot.

Yup, I was around. I was young for my age but matured quickly.. wink

In my family the favorite cuts were "Joy Inside my tears" and "As".

I skip past the first 2 or 3 tracks sometimes though.

Beatles-Rubber Soul 1965

Personally this is my fav Beatles album. Rubber Soul is really the last great somewhat old-styled Beatles album. And is the ultimate timeless album.

1. "Norwegian Wood"
2. "Nowhere Man"
3. "Think For Yourself"
4. "The Word"
5. "What Goes On"
6. "I'm Looking Through You"
7. "In My Life"
8. "Wait"
9. "If I Needed Someone"
10. "Run For Your Life"

5/5

I'm much more of a Billy Joel fan than anything but I have to admit that Bruce Springsteen's "Thunder Road" is one fabulous album.

My favorite Billy Joel album is probably "Glass Houses". There is a great song called "Closer to the Borderline" on the second side. Good gritty rock and roll with hard lyrics. Give it a listen some time...

DeNiro, great album. I just heard Norwegian Wood today and it reminded me of how good that album is. Although it's not my favorite Beatle album. I still like the White Album, Abbey Road and Sgt. Pepper. smile

Btw, did you ever see "Across The Universe?" If not, I'd recommend it. While not the Beatles performing, it's a very unique and entertaining story revolving around all Beatle music and the performances are very good. I don't purchase many movies, but I wanted to add that one to my small collection. smile

DeNiro,

I remember all (with the exception of "I Love You Because") those songs and if I'm not mistaken they are on EPs first two LPS. Many of my LPs are in Michigan so I can't check, but one of the LPs also has "Old Shep" which is a favorite of mine. smile

Of that list, tho I love them all, I'd pick "Mystery Train" & "That's All Right" and tho I can't place the tune just now I think I liked "Milkcow Blues Boogie" too. smile

If I'm not mistaken All the Elvis LPs I have (even his first couple) were under the RCA label though I know his very first recordings were at Sun Records.

I think this album is Elvis at his best, just a 20 year old kid singing pure Rock and Roll.
