I totally agree with SB's thoughts about it. I think only solitude could be the proper condition to Michael's damnation. Maybe a self-damnation. I think ageing Micheal's life was nothing but an endless sequence of remembrances of his crimes and the consequences of them over the ones he loved and over himself, a long nightmare, haunted by memories and remorse.
