Whether or not *I* think it is funny or not has nothing to do with the fact that a death was faked on these message forums. There will be arguments I'm sure, but even J Geoff said himself that there will certainly be bans if this turns out to be a joke. You said it yourself, even third graders could pull this one off. And they did.
