As dt said, Vito probably was apolitical, since politics was a means to an end--power. But he almost certainly would have favored Democratic politicians and judges, since they had an armlock on New York City (especially Manhattan) in those days. As for statewide or nationwide politicians--Vito would have favored whomever gave him the best deal for his bribes.
