There is a video on the Yankees website that is talking about building a new Yankee Stadium.

The NEW Yankee Stadium

The Yankees organization has spent years developing plans for the self-financed stadium that will rise in Macombs Dam Park, adjacent to and north of the current field.

Construction on the planned 51,000-seat park is expected to begin in 2006, and should conclude in time for the 2009 season.

Old news to some, but living in Boston all I hear is Red Sox this, Red Sox that, it's good to hear some news about the Yankees aside from the Red Sox whining about Damon.

I'm against this. The SkyDome is the home of the Blue Jays and Yankee Stadium is the home of the Yankees. G.S. can't leave well enough alone so it looks like the Bronx Bombers will have a new home. I can't understand why Yankee fans aren't up in arms over this but I guess we'll see what happens. The way I look at it, Yankee Stadium is a baseball shrine and it should remain the home of the Yanks until 2023 at the very least. Doesn't any one want to save the house that Ruth built?

We ARE up in arms but we don't own the team. George is gonna do what he's gonna do. I'm sure some will enjoy a brand new stadium but I think half if not MOST Yankee fans are against it. I say continue to renovate the current Yankee Stadium for as long as it takes. Even if it means playing in Shea Stadium again for a season or 2. I'd rather them build a new stadium or at least a new "outer wall" of the current Yankee Stadium, keep it on the same grounds, have the Yanks play in Shea while this is happening, than a brand new stadium. The new stadium will have more luxury boxes (big money) but fewer seats for everyday fans. Unfortunately, that's the way sports is becoming. But as long as I have the YES Network during the season, I'm a happy camper

From what i read on the site and heard in the press conferance was that they are building the new stadium to have a mix of the current Yankee Stadium, and the original design. Supposedly the seats will be closer to the field, giving as many if not more seats, adding a clubhouse out by the batter's eye tarp, and moving the bullpen over to where the original was. They say they'll use the ground that the current stadium is on for shops to sell food and merchandise, giving thousands of jobs and more income for the Yankees and the state of New York.
