Scumbag!! agreed. see what the Yanks do? they spend so much money that they even overpay the best leadoff hitter in the game. okay, they did get a better deal than Furcal's one... I'm sad to see the evil empire is the frontrunner for the WS. hopefully the Mets could use the fact the Yankees don't have a rotation and beat them 4-0. that would be sweet! bad thing the Mets don't have a rotation either.. [/b][/quote]I love the Boston fans pulling the money card, when they spend nearly as much money as the Yankees anyways. This is the first major signing by the Yankees in the offseason, yet the Red Cocks have thrown a few millions at Burnett et al. And then there are the Mets, who are spending like drunken sailors. I guess I'll have to get used to Boston fans complaining again about their shitty team because the Yankees are spending money... ...maybe if you guys actually had a front office in decent shape and didn't let your WS championship team walk away, you'd actually been in decent shape.

No one had a problem with it being over $100 million. And yes this is the first (and probably) the only major signing the Yanks have done this offseason and all hell breaks loose. Before they signed him, NOTHING. All praise to the Mets for going on a spending spree as you pointed out, the Yanks fill their void in center and this is an "injustice" to baseball. However, I didn't get on boston too much when they got Beckett because they did trade for him and Schill-cock (much like the Yanks traded for Johnson). Trades I don't complain about because anyone else in the league has the option at the same deal granted they have the chips to play with (or are willing to part with them). Finally DJ, I couldn't agree with you more. Bawstan fans should be angry at their ownership NOT Johnny Damon. Damon wanted to resign in spring training I believe but you know what, Bawstan didn't. The Yanks recruited him hard with phone calls from Joe Torre, Jason Giambi and recently signed Yankee Mike Myers. What did Bawstan do? I'm not sure but I can beat it wasn't as aggresive as the Yankees or he'd still be "Captain Caveman." Own up to the fact Bawstan, Larry L has NO IDEA what he's doing in the front office, 2004 was a FLUKE and NONE of them deserve that championship ring that's on their fingers!

I'm no fan of either team, and you can say what you want to about your beloved Yanks, but I don't see how you can say that the Sox didn't deserve their win in '04.

Allright, getting Johnny Damon is a pretty good move for the Yankees as he is a solid, talented player and will solve their CF problem. However, don't the Yankees really need pitching? They don't need any more offense. I mean they have Robinson Cano, Hideki Matsui, Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Gary Sheffield and now Johnny Damon in the same lineup for God's sake! As it stands the Yankee pitching staff is simply not talented enough to bring another title to the Big Apple. After Randy Johnson and Mariano Rivera there appears to be a whole lot of nothing. Although I'm pretty sure Steinbrenner won't let this situation fester for too long as he will probably buy Tony Armas, Roger Clemens, Gary Glover and Byung-Hyun Kim. Mark my words, if the Yanks manage to get a decent pitching staff they will win the A.L. Pennant.

As a Twins fan who actually dislikes the Red Sox worse than the Yanks, I can say that this deal isn't as big as the media is making it out to be. Damon leaving the Sox to go to the Yanks isn't a real big treason. The Yanks will be the 4th team in his career for christsakes! How can the Sox fans claim treason when he committed treason to join the Sox in the first place? As far as the Yanks fans are concerned, isn't this guy just Bernie Williams, but 2 years younger? The Yankees are the most powerful team in baseball, I believe. Can't they do better than a 30 year old centerfielder, whose better days are behind him? Isn't that exactly what they are trying to replace? I think Damon is still a good player, but are you people really serious when you call $52 million a bargain? We'll see what all the "diehards" have to say come year 3 of the deal. I think it was Terry Ryan who said, "You only have $150 million? Tough. Find a way to win."
There is no theory of evolution. Just a list of creatures Chuck Norris has allowed to live.
