The strike three controversy: I didn't see the press conference with the umps, but it's a sad state when umps get press conferences. They are suppose to be almost invisible and yet here again (the Yankee game, with Joe West) they are getting face-time.

Question: How does a catcher know the ball didn't hit the ground first? He can't see it bounce an inch before his glove and at 90 mph he couldn't discern that by eye or feel. NOT to mention the home plate ump can't even make that call. He is totally out of position. The call should be made by another ump in the field who may be able to discern the change of direction -the bounce.
