I'm in, of course.
This game doesn't need much commissionering. If I recall correctly, I posted the standings every morning along with my clever comments last year.
I guess I'll do the same this year.

Okay, following DM's link (thank you, by the way!), this seems to be the salary cap game you referred me to, right, Plaw? I'm really tempted to join in - I seriously know very little about basketball, so I'd be treating it like a math game, but knowing that it's almost identical to BBC makes me think I could at least guess my way through. My main question is: will y'all kill me if I end up with DNPs or, at the worst, have to quit playing the game altogether? I think I'd be better off spending a little bit of time each night on my lineup than a lot of time watching actual games, and hopefully my mom wouldn't mind. I just don't want Turi to find out if I can't play, considering some of his punishments for the fantasy gamers who back out!

Since I'm not commishing this game, I won't even bother to mention that DNP'ers are a waste of time/effort/space. But as a flute-playing band camp chick, of course you're welcome to play as much or as little as you want!

You are certainly more than welcome to play, GG. The game site provides you with each players fantasy PPG average along with his cap value, so the game can certainly be treated strictly as a mathematical exercise. The only problem is, as the season progresses and the cap values increase, it is helpful to follow the sport at least somewhat so you are aware of the guys who have low cap values but whose playing time has dramatically increased and whose current scoring rates exceed their low value. As far as DNPs go, don't worry about it. This is not a head-to-head game, so it doesn't affect the other players. Play when you can or want to, enjoy those days when you do well, and have a good time. You didn't figure to win the thing anyway. :p You can compete with LZ and the other new chick in the game ("Trish", I think her name is) for first place in the Ladies Division.

Thanks for not mentioning that. :p Originally posted by plawrence: You didn't figure to win the thing anyway. :p Well, I'm in. Maybe it was the great faith that Plaw instilled in me...no, probably not. :p But I guess he truly is as good as he says he is in chick recruiting. The main thing I was worried about was if my possible DNPs would affect others, and since it won't, I might as well give it a go. Maybe I'll learn something in the process. I don't, however, plan to participate in the chick race, either. I know that Zia's way into basketball (and not just for Manu!), so she's tough competition, and DM...I always thought he was a guy? Anyway, my mere presence should guarantee that none of you come in last place, and if worst comes to worst, I can always entertain all of you with photos of Willy.

Well, I found out the dumb way that you apparently don't spend near as much on coaches as you do on position players. I tried to spend an even amount on all six things until I could see all my choices together, then I realized my mistake.

I guess it's time for my pre-season analysis and morning line odds......
PL: Going for a three-peat, and without DB in the field, he looks like a lock. Of course, he was going for a three-peat in baseball, too, and got derailed by a first-timer, so you never know. Prediction: First (and by a lot) Odds: 4-5
JL: Despite a poor finish behind DM, JG, and SP in last year's second half and a multitude of DNPs, the feeling is that he can do much better. After all, he is the MOAAFS. Prediction: A distant second Odds: 4-1
DM: Could finish as high as second, but who knows with the MOAAFS around. Showed well last year, with improvement could even challenge for first. Prediction: A close third Odds: 9-2
SP: Have a feeling this is gonna be his breakout season. The kid is a year older, more mature and responsible, and vowing to finally kick JG's ass. If he can avoid the deadly DNPs that plagued him the last two years, he could wind up in what might be a four-way fight for second. Prediction: A close fourth Odds: 5-1
JG: Fifth place finish in last year's second half was his worst finish ever in a marathon. Definitely in the mix for a run at second place, but has a lot working against him, given the fact that improvement is expected from the MOAAFS and SP, and that DM beat him last year, not to mention his overall lack of basketball knowledge. Prediction: A close fifth Odds: 11-2
LZ: Did nicely in limited play last season, but can't see her cracking the Top Five. Besides, she is a "chick" after all. But much stranger things have been known to happen. Prediction: A distant sixth Odds: 50-1
GG: Another chick. No experience, claims to know little about basketball, and already talking about quitting early because of "Mom Problems". Realistically, can't give her much of a shot, but you never know. If either LZ or GG managed to crack the Top Five it would be a major upset. Prediction: Seventh Odds: 75-1
