OK, I've set up TWO, count 'em, TWO leagues this year. One is head-to-head while the other is on a Points system. I've set up two since the issue of which system is far from decided, but apparently, there's been a run on good draft times so I wanted to reserve ours. I'll set up the scoring later, but I don't expect it to be much different from last year. We will have 14 teams this year instead of 12. So Turi, you'll be happy to know that our league is set up. Once we decide what league we want (or we could decide we want both), I'll release the log-in information and password (although if you're crafty, you could figure it out! ). The poll ends July 31, 2005.Those showing interest so far are:Turi Double-J Plaw JG JB SP DMC (he made an appearance) Zo (if head-to-head) Remaining players from last year who haven't spoken up yet:Freddie C Raggingbull Big Daddy Buffy Iceman Pat

So I can be in both leagues, right? Should be plenty of room with two fourteen team leagues going.
Can we know who's gonna be in each league if we can only be in one? If, say, you and JG go into the head-to-head version, I'd rather be in that one than the other, even though I prefer the cumulative points format.

I don't really see a point in having two separate leagues just for different scoring purposes. And I don't think Douche necessarily meant that there'd be two. I think he just started them just in case. I can only handle one live draft! (And even then it's tough! ) So if you do have two, I'm just gonna play head-to-head. I enjoy it, and accept the weekly W/L record just like real NFL teams do. :p I'd rather accumulate my points in Gridiron Challenge (like we do for baseball and basketball).

I think JG made a good suggestion previously about the handling the two different systems. We'll have one league which is Head-to-Head. However, we'll keep track of both the Head-to-Head standings and Cumulative Points-based standings. The Head-to-Head league's season will be 14 weeks long with Weeks 15 and 16 for the Playoffs. The Point-based season will last 16 weeks (maybe 14 if Yahoo stops keeping track of scores for Head-to-Head non-playoff teams.) The standings will be based purely on cumulative points from Week 1. Winners from both Head-to-Head and Points-based systems will have "Top of the GBB Sports Page" status. What do you guys think? I think it's a good compromise. The strategy might be slightly different between the two systems, but I don't think the difference in strategies is that significant.

Good idea! Except we have to be sure that those who don't make the playoffs (Plaw, for instance :p ) still play as if they were.

You mean like if I'm out of the playoffs, and in the last week or two I'm playing against someone who is battling you for a playoff spot, you want to make sure that I don't dump on purpose?

Well, that's another issue - but if I remember correctly, trades were voted on and approved before going through. But I would not want great players just being dropped as free agents, but that shouldn't happen since it's also points-based.
But my point was for those who've missed the playoffs then said 'screw it' and not cared about the last two weeks. But if we also count points, hopefully that won't happen -- at least among the contenders.

i think the idea of having a head to head league and still keep track of total points is a great idea. as far as keeping track of the total points winner, why don't we just cap the total points standings at the end of week 14? that would technically be the end of the fantasy football regular season anyways, so whoever has the most points at the end of the last week is the total points winner. that way, we won't have to worry about whether the non-playoff teams have a matchup for the last 2 weeks. i'm not 100% sure, but if i remember correctly from last year on yahoo, it only sets up matchups for the playoff teams in a head to head league, so the site wouldn't keep track of the non-playoff teams points the last two weeks. it is also a pain in the ass trying to set the lineup for a team that isn't in the playoffs because the site regards these teams as no longer active for the very reason jgeoff brought up: some jerk doesn't make the playoffs and decides to be a pain in the ass by dropping his studs so his buddy who made the playoffs can come along and pick them up. so if your team isn't in the playoffs, we would have to keep track of the points and transactions for weeks 15 and 16 ourselves, which kind of defeats the purpose of having a sight. 14 weeks is plenty of time to determine which team is the best, and it makes it a lot easier on everyone involved.

If we go with a 14 team league, why don't we have a 13 week schedule, so it's balanced?
In a 14 week schedule with 1 teams, you have to play someone a second time the 14th week. Since that's the week that usually determines at least of couple of playoff spots, some people will have a strong opponent and some will have a weaker one.
With a balanced shedule, we eliminate one of the inequities in head-to-head.

Duhhhh... That's exactly what I wanted - everyone plays everyone once. I forgot that you don't play against yourself. OK, we can go one of two ways: Option 1 - 14 team league, regular season of 13 weeks for both head-to-head and points, playoffs for the top 6 head-to-head teams in Weeks 14 - 16 (I believe the top 2 get a bye in Week 14) Option 2 - 15 team league, regular season of 14 weeks for both head-to-head and points, playoffs for the top 4 head-to-head teams in Weeks 15 - 16, each team has one week in the regular season where you won't have an opponent, but your points count towards your cumulative score I'm making Option 2 available in case people want a longer "points" regular season. I'm leaning towards Option 2.

i think head to head adds excitement...plus if u think bout it...the nfl bases the playoffs on win/loss records...not who scored the most points...but i just made a league on yahoo and noticed something called recent smack talk...anyone know what thats about?

The Iceman is definitely interested. It seems our esteemed Don has kept the official bb hitman quite busy lately, which explains why I haven't posted in this thread until now. I voted for Yahoo as I'm not real familiar with ESPN's fantasy leagues. I also voted for points.
