Wow, I rewatched Ray last night, and it was just as incredible as I remember it. My family bought it around when it first came out, and I watched it with my parents just once. I'd been wanting to see it again for the longest, but I was waiting for a weekend when I could watch it in full and really enjoy it.

Such a great movie. Jamie Foxx is just terrific - he makes me forget that it's not actually Ray on the screen - but the character that I really loved was Ray's mom. Every scene she was in just had my eyes glued to the screen. She's such a powerful actress.

So, are you gals (and guys) looking forward to the WBC? I understand that Jeter and A-Rod are both playing for America, right, SB? God, it'll be nice to have some baseball so soon.

Did A-Rod finally decide? He was invited to play for both the US and the Dominican Republic. I had heard that he hadn't decided. I guess he finally did. Btw, have you seen the new Nike commercial with A-Rod? Oh, my, does he look good!!

I loved Ray, and so does my daughter. You are absolutely right, Gina. The young woman who plays his mother was absolutely riveting. Although Jamie Foxx was great, she gave an incredibly powerful performance.

Yes, SB, I heard that he couldn't decide, wasn't going to play for either, and now he's finally decided to go with the U.S. I haven't seen the commercial you described, or any baseball commercial for that matter, except one for HDTV that just shows a scene from a "fake" game. All of the flashbacks concerning his brother, George, really got the tears flowing. This might be a SPOILER for someone, but the thing that really "got" me was when George told Ray, "It wasn't your fault," and Ray put his head on his mom's lap. Oh, man. What a scene.

It really was a heartbreaker, wasn't it?? What a great film. It's odd that there were two films made in the last few years - Miracle and Ray - and both of the men whose stories were being told, died before the film came out. Isn't that odd???

The Nike commercial actually shows a bunch of different athletes doing stuff, and A-Rod is in it.

Thanks for reminding me of Miracle - I saw it with my parents, and it seemed like that was so long ago. I didn't realize it was such a recent movie.

Ray just makes me miss Ray, and sort of wish that I was around for more of his life...so many times I find myself wishing I'd been born at an earlier time to catch the true legends that people of that time have become. What do I have for my time? Paris Hilton. 'Nuff said, there.

I'm reading the Belushi biography, and it's making me wish I was around for him, as well.

OK, Gina, now you're making me feel old!! Heck, I actually watched the US team win the gold medal. I watched that Olympics on TV with my parents, but it doesn't seem that long ago!!!

By the way, my parents just got back from a music store that's going out of business, and my mom bought a great Ray Charles CD - "Modern Sounds in Country and Western music." She has it on record but was happy to get it on CD, and I'm happy to listen to it! She also got Wilson Pickett and Aretha Franklin CDs.

I love Aretha. She's so fantastic. Her number in The Blues Brothers is one of my favorites, although I would be hard pressed to name a favorite number from that movie. My husband is such a fan that he starts humming The Girl from Ipanema every time we're in an elevator.

Btw, I don't know who is watching the Super Bowl, but please oh please tell me you saw the "magic fridge" commercial!! I almost wet my pants I was laughing so hard!!

Yeah, I saw the "magic fridge" commercial. It was freakin awesome. During the week they would show pieces of the superbowl commercials and you only saw the beginning when the guy flipped the switch to turn the wall around. What poetic justice he did it so his friends couldn't steal his beer, only to have the beer going next door. I also was laughing so hard. That rates right up there with Cedric the entertainer's commercial where he shakes his beer bottles so hard they splash in his date's face.

Other then this commercial the rest have been more or less duds.

I have to say that the other commercial that had me going was the one with the two doctors, the fly, and the paddles. The look on the little kid's face was perfect!

The only other cute one might have been all the Superbowl players practicing their "I'm going to Disneyworld" lines. I'm such a softie for that sort of thing.

I think the one with the office workers finding the hidden Bud lights was a rip off of the Larry Tate office worker one of a couple years ago. I hope the Halftime show is great. Other then that this Superbowl rates a 4 so far.

That was a good one. I also think the careerbuilder.com ads with office full of monkeys were funny, especially the one with the donkeys. Monkeys and Donkeys!!

And also, I managed to fit a Godfather quote into my History presentation on the Korean War. My teacher has quoted the movie before, so maybe that'll get me some bonus points. Regardless, it'll be fun to see how many people recognize it.

And don't worry if you didn't know that, because I know I wouldn't have, if I wasn't doing the project. I might have trouble retaining this information just in the time until the presentation.
