We actually chose not to offer him arbitration a while back, which means that the earliest he could sign with us is in May. Basically, he's a free agent, now. If we'd offered him arbitration, we would've had a chance to set a contract with him, but we didn't, so we wouldn't be tied down with those negotiations. He can sign with another team right now, sign with us in May and play a partial season (which I think would be great, for him and us), or he can retire.
