Hmm. I've really lost touch with all my baseball shows through the off-season. Does anyone know what he looks like all grown up??
SB, glad you're joining in! Most of my gal friends aren't too into sports, so when I talk about guys like McGrady and Cabrera, I never go into the...girl talk. They wouldn't know who they were, anyway, so it'd just be weird. I'm looking for some pics of older Benny right away for you and Bethie! If I can like 40-something (right?) Johnny Depp, y'all can certainly like Mike Vitar! By the way, he's 26, and going to turn 27 on December 21st. He's actually older than we might've thought, huh?

I just ignore the silly "married" detail. I was so upset when I found out about Eltran-Bay's wife...back when he wasn't a jerk to me. And every other freakin' player I like, seems to have a wife. League of Their Own is wonderful. I love Tom Hanks, and it was just a great movie. I'm not that great at playing ball when I do for fun, but I think every chick loves to see girls doing so well at baseball. It was a tear-jerker, too, of course. I've meaning to watch Field of Dreams in full for the longest, because I keep forgetting small parts that create the entire incredible effect, but that movie is great.

Okay. On to Benny/Mikey. I'll go do some surfing!

Mike Vitar/Benny the Jet

From imdb.com:

"Birth name - Michael Anthony Vitar

Mike Vitar started acting at the age of 12 when a casting manager spotted him in line for a ride at a school carnival.

Has an older brother Pablo, and an older sister Elizabeth

He and older brother Pablo played the same character (at different ages) in "The Sandlot."

Where are they now - (June 2002) Firefighter in Hollywood"

I guess Pablo played him in the end, on the Dodgers? Cool! And he's a firefighter? Wow.

Here's the mian page on him, with the other movies he's been in.

Good Picture Page
It has him in Sandlot, Mighty Ducks, then "Just Mike" alone. Maybe the JM pics are older?

Gorgeous eyes!!!

Okay. I can tell why I like him. For one thing, anything pertaining to baseball in a guy's interests makes him twice as attractive to me. If he plays ball (and can play good!), likes baseball, is a baseball fan, etc., so Mike as Benny is very attractive to me.

Another reason (which might be why I like his younger pics better) is because he seems like the "guy down the street" that I only can dream lived near me. I just imagine how awesome it would be if my cousins, brother, and I still went out every night to play ball like we used to (in our empty lot...just with grass, not sand), and he was our neighbor and came and played with us, too. I guess this is more admiration of Benny than Mike (unless he's the same), but how I would love to play under the fireworks on the Fourth of July and have him out there on the field with us, being good friends, just like they are on the movie. *sigh* I'll keep waiting for him to show up on my doorstep with a glove, asking me to play.

Wow, he hasn't changed much at all. He has a resemblance to someone, but I just can't put my finger on it.

Oh, and a fire fighter!! Way cool.

Okay. If you search for pics using a Yahoo/Google image search, and you come up with this, click on an individual picture so that it brings you to something that looks like this. Then, click on the picture (at the top), again, and it'll bring you to something like this. Copy the URL at the top, in the address bar, and then paste it into your message/post here, using "Image" under the Instant UBB Code section. If you find a picture, but it's on a normal web page, and you can't click on it to get it alone (like you can on the image searches), right-click the picture, click "Properties," then copy/paste the "Address/URL" the same way, into "Image" on your post.

Hope that wasn't too detailed, but I wasn't sure how much info you needed. Let me know if it works, and then you can post some Jetah/A-Rod pics.

I'm not really sure at what age these were taken, but they've got to be post-Sandlot.

Mike Vitar was also in Mighty Ducks 2 and 3? hahaha. I guess he's keeping with the sports theme.

I did a google search for pics of him and they all seemed to be the same time range. So that's probably the latest we're gonna get of him. I wouldn't mind seeing him pose for one of those fire fighter calendars.

Way to go boys! High fives all around.

The Nationals top pick in the draft today was a 3rd baseman. Uggh...that can't be good news for my guy. He did only have a 2 year deal. Maybe Melvin Mora will get hit by a bus and The Orioles will sign him. One can only hope.

Oh no! Vinny's gotta stay! We'll make sure of it...

I have something to add! (Of course! )
Any of you Sandlot gals like the bully-punk who challenged the boys to a game? I hated his character, of course, but I thought he was a tad cute...what I mainly liked was the way he talked. "We play on a real diamond, Poih-ter!" (Porter->Poih-ter... ) And his face after the big "play ball like a girl" insult by Ham...and the way his voice squeaked...pre-pubescent, perhaps? Just thought he was somewhat cute.

I wish I could scan in the photo of Jeter and ARod that I have hanging in my office. It's from last year's spring training and the photo is of the two of them laughing. I like to think that they're smiling because they're thinking of me! In the meantime, here's a pretty one of ARod.

And here's one of the two of them when ARod became a Yankee.

Now let's see how good your photo posting lessons are!!

Ok, one out of two isn't bad. I can see ARod, but the photo of the two of them shows up as the dreaded red x. Ah well.

The photos of Mike Vitar are so adorable, Gina. Beth, I know exactly what you mean about feeling like a dirty, old lady. If he's 27, that means I could be his mother. Granted, I would've been a teen mom, but still.... How depressing!!

Jeff Gordon is adorable. But I remember the good old days of NASCAR, when you could hate Dale, Sr., but now everybody loves him. There were great old drivers, like Daryl Waltrip in the Tide car, Richard Petty, Cale Yarborough, AJ Foyt.

SB, you did great! Everyone gets the stupid X's at some point, and I never know what to do anyway.

He could almost, sort of be my dad...Mike Vitar, that is. Well, it wouldn't even be a teen dad, and it'd be very weird, but don't feel like a "dirty, old lady." He's just a good looking guy! And I read on the trivia page that he wouldn't mind dating a fan...score!

I wonder why the x's show up? Where do the pictures go?

Watching the Yankees lose right now. Only consolation, they just showed a close-up of Jeter.

Gina, if Mike Vitar could be your father, then I could almost be your grandmother!!

I don't know what's with the pictures. I'm not extremely computer-savvy.

My Astros lost, as well, so no worries. Bah. Bad sports day for us.

Well, I'm 16, so maybe I was exaggerating a tad...I don't think we're that far apart.

I just re-read this; "we" as in me and you, not me and Mikey...or both ways, I guess. I'm confused.

Mike Vitar's a firefighter now? That's hot in so many ways.

Beth, I like Karros too. He's one of the "classics" who's stuck around. Here's a better pic of him.

Gi, Wally's definitely not bad either. To paraphrase the guys on this BB, "I wouldn't kick him out of bed."

And yes, there is one hot golfer... I can't remember his name though.

I have the birthing rule...if he's old enough that I couldn't have given birth to him, then he's fine. At 27 I would have to have been an aweful young mother.

I love Darryl Waltrip. I like it better when the Fox guys do the commentary, rather then NBC. Boogity, boogity, boogity!!!

You have to see what the extension at the end of the link is. If it's bmp this site won't take them. You need to make sure they end in jpg.

LDV would LOVE this pic. I try doing searches on pictures of these guys and I just pick from the limited supply I have. I guess I don't know all the tricks of finding great shots.

Oh, Gina, you're so sweet about us not being that far apart in years, but I have a daughter that's almost your age! God, I really feel like a dirty, old lady now!!

Beth, I agree with you on Daryl Waltrip. He was adorable when his younger brother Michael won Daytona and he was announcing.

Afs - thanks for the help with the photo!

Oh, I loved Daryl's announcing when Michael won too. Him screaming out, "MIKEEEEEEEEEE". That was nice. I'm sure some of the older generation who don't like the mushy stuff didn't like it. But I'm a chick and I'm emotional..hahaha.

It's a shame that some of the older drivers are fading out. Although, I certainly don't miss Jimmy Spencer. But I miss the before mentioned Ward Burton, Johnny Benson, this is Rusty and Bill Elliot's last seasons, Kenny Wallace, although I think he mainly races the Busch series, and the Bodine brothers. Some of the newer guys like Kevin Harvick and Jimmy Johnson are too cocky for me. Who knows, maybe they'll grow on me.

Don't worry about it! We're all fantasizing on here anyway, so it doesn't matter!

I'll be out some today, but when I get back, I'll be sure to check in here. Maybe I'll post some more pics...

Thanks Beth.

I never remembered/knew what Brian Roberts looked like, so that helped. I used to hear from a lot of girl baseball fans that the A's have some good looking guys...I checked a few out, and they're not bad. But not quite as nice as Miguel.

Oh! I just remembered my other big favorite!

Felipe Lopez of the Reds

He's gorgeous.

Manu was on the cover of ESPN's latest magazine, and I found photos from each cover on their web site, but only up to March '05. It was a lovely one, too.

When I first saw that pic I thought it was Nomar.
I just found out his name is actually his father's first name, Ramon, spelled backwards. You learn something new everyday I guess.

A few years ago we were staying at the Hilton in Toronto. It turned out that the Red Sox were in town and were also staying there. In the morning, all of the players would stop in the lobby on their way to the stadium and sign autographs and balls for little kids, except for Nomar. He would dash through the lobby, yelling "Sorry, kids, I'm late!" and jump in a cab. I never liked him after that.

That'd be cool to stay at the same hotel as players, though!

We went back there last summer and bought tickets to the Blue Jays/Yankees game. I kept hoping that the Yankees would be at the hotel, but, alas, there was no sign of them. However, a friend of mine lives on the same street as the house that Jeter recently bought for his parents. He told me that Jeter has been seen around town, and even brought Tino Martinez, another hottie, into the local pizzeria. Here's a picture of the two of them (sigh and swoon). Jeter's on your left.
