High school baseball season is here! I will be the starting CF and will bat 1 or 2 in the order. Our team should be pretty good this year. We have a decent chance at winning our league's championship (10 teams in the league).

I bat and throw lefty. But I wish that I threw righty. Since I'm a lefty, I can't play in the infield. To play 3B, SS, or 2B, you need to be a righty. And I'm too small to play 1B (5'9, 153lbs).

It was soooo cold at practice today. I don't mind the cold weather during football season, but I hate playing baseball in the cold.

Yes...your very own baseball thread! I'd check out your wrestling thread every so often, but I really don't know much about the sport itself..

Now baseball, I love! I think it's great you're so active in the many sports available. I only talk to one guy (often) on my school's baseball team, but it's fun to hear about what happened at their games. Good luck to you and your team this season!

Aw! At least you tried, though. I've only been the spectator for school sports, and when I play at home...I might as well just watch!

I only do three sports (football, wrestling, baseball), one for each season. It beats having a job.

The thing that I like best about playing high school baseball is the relaxed atmoshpere. I still have to try hard and everything, but compared to football and wrestling, it's a piece of cake. These practices are so much easier. We all just screw around the whole time.

We played our first game yesterday. We won, 6-3. I started and CF and batted 2nd. I was 1-3, with two runs and a walk.

We are supposed to have practice this afternoon. Right now it's kinda misty outside. Everything is wet. I doubt that our coach will want to ruin the field today. There's a great quote in Bull Durham - "Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, and sometimes it rains"

In other high school sporting news, my girlfriend has quit the track team. She was a distance runner. She quit because she says her knee hurts.

Was this just your second game? About how many games are there? Do you get to keep up with the other schools in some kind of standings or something? I'm quite unfamiliar with how high school baseball works...

My teacher found out I like baseball, and she's trying to get me to join the softball team next year. I'm sure it would be fun, but I think I'm better off watching it than playing it... Glad you're doing good, though!

We won yesterday, 2-1. I was 0-3. I made a nice play in the field. The ball was dropping fast and I made a sliding catch.

Gina, my high school is in an athletic conference. It is a group of 10 local schools. (Ours is called the Pioneer Athletic Conference aka PAC-10) We compete with these schools in all sports. In baseball, we play each team in our conference twice (1 home, 1 away) We also play a couple of non-conference games. I think we have 20 games this year. Right now we are 2-0 in the conference, 3-0 overall. The team with the best conference record wins the conference title.

I hit a homer at practice today. I've never hit one in a game though. Once I hit the fence on one bounce. That's the closest I've ever gotten.

We lost yesterday, 10-0. The game ended in the 6th inning (there's a 10 run mercy rule). Our whole team played terrible. We only had 1 hit, but had 5 errors. I was 0-3. The team we played is the 3-time defending conference champion, but we really felt that we could challenge them this year. I guess not.

We lost yesterday 16-6 (another 10 run rule). I was 1-2 with a walk and a RBI. Our pitching was terrible. Us outfielders were running all over the place, and couple were hit over the fence. This school that we played dominates us in every sport I play. They beat us 42-7 in football, 39-22 in wrestling, and now 16-6 in baseball.

I did the mile run in phys ed today. I figured that this was the last time I'd ever be timed in the mile, so I actually tried my hardest. I got 5:11, which is decent.

Sorry that I haven't been giving updates lately. Yesterday we had a double-header. We dominated both games. We won the first game 10-5, the second game 13-0. I combined to go 3-7 with 3 RBI. Our conference record is now 10-4. We're in 3rd place.

This past Wednesday we beat the 1st place team, 6-5. They were undefeated. In fact, they had a 32-game conference winning streak dating back to 2003.

We lost Tuesday night, 2-3, in 8 innings (high school games are 7 innings).

We won last night, 4-1. I batted leadoff but went 0-3.

We won Friday afternoon, 10-4. I didn't start because we were facing a lefty.

Freddie, at least you can play something besides 1B. I am right handed, 5'6" and had a weaker arm than the other catcher. I was starting 1B up until 10th grade, then was forced to retire

Too bad DSC

We won yesterday, 11-7. I was 2-4. That was our last conference game. We finished second, with a record of 13-5. With the win last night, we have qualified for districts.

Here are your stats for the nine games you gave us.

How about filling in the missing numbers?

Code:
At Bats: 33
Hits: 11
Average: .333
Runs: 2 (??)
RBIs: 5 (??)
Walks 2 (??)
Doubles: 1
Triples: 1

On Base %: .371
Slugging %: .424
Besides the missing games, I suspect there are some stats missing from the games you did give us.

Only two runs scored as a result of being on base 13 times and batting high in the order?

You're exactly right Plaw. I haven't even posted about every game. At the end of the season, our manager will give us a print-out of all our stats.

Thanks for taking an interest.

We only had one game this past week. It was a non-conference game, which we lost 3-1. Tomorrow is the opening round of districts. We are the #6 seed in our bracket.

We won our first district game, but then lost in the second round. This year I am not playing legion. I want to enjoy my last summer before college. Legion takes up a lot of time.
