Well, to me, this is a no-brainer. They've just killed Paulie Gatto and they're changing cars, and Clemenza tells Rocco, "leave the gun. Take the cannolis."

Gotta give Coppola credit for realizing that even in a movie that basically celebrated violence, he needed comic relief. Probably even needed it MORE. Clemenza and Frankie are two WONDERFUL characters.

This is something that GFIII really, really lacked, by the way. Unless you were laughing at Eli Wallach throughout the film, as I was (except that he was unintentionally funny).
