Unbelievable.

I get home from work late, and it's 3-0 Cubs.

I order a pizza, it comes, I throw a coupla slices in the oven and go in the bedroom to make nice to the GF while the pizza heats up. I come out, grab the pizza from the oven, go back to the game, and it's 4-3 Marlins and I'm just in time for Mordecai's three run double.

DB, I feel your pain.

Last year, Net and Spurs, NBA finals, 2 games a piece. Nets up by a few in the 4th quarter. I'm thinking, Nets get back to San Antonio up 3-2, win one of two, and they're the NBA champs.

You know the rest...

Aw man, I feel sick. This was just a sick thing to witness tonight.

We just got a new AAA team here in my city last year. After many years of being the farm team to the Dodgers, we are now representing the Marlins. People around here are cheering on the Marlins but not me...

Tomorrow. Cubs. World Series Bound. I hope.

EDIT:Sorry DB, didn't mean to steal both your words AND your sentiment. It took me a good 10 minutes to type the above post as I was watching WGN's coverage of the ruckus outside of Wrigley.

In a word: Ugh!

I still can't believe it. I dont't think the foul ball play was as important as Gonzalez error that would have at least been a force out. Gotta give props to the Marlins, they never quit. All comes down to Wood having the weight of the world on his right arm.

Doucheman, Doucheman, what the hell happened? And don't blame me cause I turned it off in the 6th and you guys were winning 2-0. Although I wasn't making nice with anyone in the bedroom like J-Jo was. If anyone you should scream at the moron who caught the foul ball. What, did that Maier kid move to Chicago? And what ruckus? I didn't watch any news this morning.

All I know is the Cubbies better win or that idiot in the stands better watch out for people trying to kill him. And when I say people, I mean DB and his posse.

I still feel sick. Ugggh.

Could any more things have gone wrong? I seriously fear for this kid's life. If he doesn't commit suicide, some crazy psycho will find him and kill him, literally (if the Cubs don't win tonight, that is). I wouldn't rule out a suicide because he looked like a die-hard fan with his good seats and listening to the play-by-play with headphones.

I agree with BGT though- the Gonzalez error was even bigger. Easily a double play ball. Easily.

Ugghh.

I only caught bits and pieces of it this morning. From what I saw, they should have left Prior in. I think Farnsworth better be entering the Witness Protection Program as well. When I saw the score I wondered if a different game broke out after I went to bed. I felt like I woke up in the twilight zone.

Is that Billy goat coming out of the shadows?

What's even worse is that I will miss the freaking game tonight. I have family in town and we bought tickets to a dinner/show thinking that it's a 99% probability that the Cubs would win last night. Five outs away. I'm at a loss for words.

Actually, I don't even want to watch. I'm completely disgusted right now.

Wood is pitching tonight, right? I think after the stellar year he's had there's not a chance in hell, or sighting of a billy goat, that is gonna take this win away from Wood. He's got the world on his shoulders. He's proven he can handle it.

Talk about media responsibility...

The kid's name, addresses (email and home), and job info are all over the internet and newspapers.

Now he is really going to get killed.

I just saw a quick bite on the news from last night when they were escorting that fan who caught the foul bowl out of the stadium. He looked visibly shaken, and almost scared. They said he's been verbally assaulted and had debris thrown at him. Moises Alou said he felt bad for the kid, and hopes he won't live to regret it. If the Cubs lose I think that kid needs to go into a Witness Protection Program or something.

Now that's just outrageous. There's no reason for that. The poor guy didn't show up for work today because of the harrassment. I'm feeling nervous for the guy.

Boston wins! Boston wins! Wooo hooo! Yeah, baby, yeah. Tomorrow, tomorrow. You're only a game a way. A Red Sox/Cubbies series is inching closer and closer. Can you feel the electricity in the air?

Dammit.

People here are going crazy since our AAA team here is farm team for the Marlins. I about got my ass kicked at the gym rooting for the Cubbies. Literally! Almost was asked to leave! What a bummer. I pulled for them, DoucheMan, I really did.

Tomorrow my calender is cleared. I wouldn't miss the Rocket and Pedro for ANYTHING!

All I know is that I am an NL gal so I gotta root the Marlins through.....

Uggh!! I'm sorry Doucheman! I feel your pain. I also feel for that "foul ball guy". Yes, I know his name was printed, but I'm not Kobe's attorney. He'll stay anonymous with me. That guy should just sell his house and move out of state. I think Jeb Bush offered him asylum in Florida. Now, if the Yankees win I'm giving up on this baseball thang. Sorry Buffy.

Un-friggin-real. I am speechless. I am without words.

I could describe it by numbers like I usually do.

Getting punched in the stomach - times 100
Losing a loved one - times 1/2
Unrequited love - times 20

You know that uneasy helpless feeling you get when you get two outs on the opposing team in an inning, then one of your fielders commits an error and a whole bunch of runs score and they are all unearned.

That was game seven for me. For nine straight innings (plus the ninth inning from game six).

It's that feeling times 100 since it was a playoff game. A Game 7 to go to the World Series.

The closest to describing it is how I felt after the Bills came back on the Oilers, erasing a 32 point lead in two quarters. I still remember the missed calls on that one. Railroaded.

Five outs. That's all we needed. Five friggin' outs. I can count that on one hand. Too bad one more win was not within reach of that proverbial hand.

It sucks to be so emotionally invested into this thing. I'll put things into perspective later on- after all, it is just a baseball game. For now, I'll choose to feel bad.

Sorry for venting.

(But you know what, I KNOW there's at least one guy feeling worse. Much, much worse. I hope no one is stupid and tries to harm him.)

Anyway getting back to business. I was really rooting for the Scrubbies. I can't believe they lost 3 in a row and given up 8 and 9 runs in the last 2 games with Prior and Wood

At this point they should just get rid of the Cubs. It is obvious they are destined to NEVER get to the Series, let the players go and have a chance to get there elsewhere and stop tormenting the poor Cubs fans - to build their hopes up only to break their hearts.

Hey at least you still have Da Bears to root for DB - oh and the Bulls

OK - let's go BOSOX

It's a sad day! It is true that it's only a baseball game. But it's still a part of life. If you want something really bad, and have it within reach, and lose it, it's gonna be like a kick in the gut. You have friends, (and me ) who were rooting for you. But I don't remember any sympathy pains for me when Atlanta lost. I'm not watching anymore games. I've got enough gray hairs.

And true, I shed no tears for you when the Braves got eliminated. Had nothing to do with friendship, I just wonder how you Bethie can be so misguided to be a Braves fan :p Obviously I have a whole lot more to teach you!

To me the Braves are nothing. If I had to think real hard, I would say their only redeeming value is Mike Hampton who went to Atlanta by way of Colorado.

And Bethie, you cannot "QUIT" watching or playing baseball. You entered into a lifetime membership.

Read plaw's soon to be released book before Spring, master some fundamentals and forget all about this World Series fiasco....

I heard THAT! Complete agreement! :p

O.K., I'm getting over it slowly. I think they should dismantle this team now. I don't think they'll get over it. You guys remember what happened to Nick Anderson after he missed four straight free throws against the Rockets in the NBA finals. He used to be an 80+% free throw shooter before that and couldn't hit more than 50% afterwards. It traumatized him. I think this whole Cubs team will be like 27 Nick Andersons!

Pick on me all you want. If SC and DB can root for their losers leave me alone with my misguided love. And when I visit you and we go to Coors field we'll have to make a quick stop in Littleton, CO so I can drop my flowers off at Vinny's house.

"Make Nice" means "How are you, honey, how was your day, I gotta go eat and watch the rest of the game"

Pizza in the microwave?

Never. I like my slices crispy on the bottom. 3-4 minutes in a real oven at 400 degrees

Dismantle the Cubs?

Well, they should certainly dismantle Dusty Baker.

As far as the players go, keep Prior, Zambrano, Wood, Corey Patterson (remember him?), Sosa (maybe), and Ramirez.

No, I would certainly keep Dusty. It's just his mojo wasn't enough to overcome the curse.

I agree with your list Plaw. Like you, I'm not so sure about Sosa. Ramirez is a keeper, definitely. Randall Simon might be good too, if he ever learns to take a walk every once in a while.
