By way of explanation, it's not for myself that I keep making a big deal about the overall standings. It's really for the benefit of JG.

Remember the strike-shortened 1981 baseball season? They missed about two months, and wound up dividing the season into two "halves". The winners of each division for each half met in a playoff series, and the winners went on to play for the pennant.

Well, what happened was, in the National League, both St. Louis and Cincinnati finished with the best overall records, but failed to make the playoffs because they didn't finish first in either half.

Wouldn't it be a shame if JG wound up finishing second in both halves, but overall had the most points and was unable to lay claim to "officially" winning anything?

I'm looking out for JG, that's all.
