I agree! I remember when my favorite players to start were Eric Byrnes, Brian Roberts, Alex Cintron and Matt Kata (yum!! ) then I would round it out with Nady and Gallarraga. Now most of these guys seem to not have as many at-bats. Scrubs...all of them until the salaries are so high, I am picking through the bottom of the barrel again.

I agree with your thoughts on PS's. I'll bet if I made a list of PS's I have picked since Day One, the A's and Seattle would top that list.

More random thoughts:

DoucheMan: Why do the Cubbies employ so many pitchers who wear puka shells? Are these gems (the shells, not the pitchers )found in Lake Michigan? I can't decide if I like that look or not. Is that a metrosexual look?

Also, everyone seems to have a different or almost unflattering nickname (or like Prince and , just a symbol...) noone ever calls SC anything but that. How come?

I believe we have become so predicatable in our habits that we can probably set our watches to the hour by when some of us are gonna post here. I think the busiest time is somwhere between 6-8 pm (Eastern, of course....am I the only one in Mountain?) when all the gang seems to be here at the same time.

Which makes me ponder - the football fantasy season is going to be very, very slow.


But I dislike this game immensely. I may not play next year.....

For once, the Queen of Innuendo/Bathroom Humor/and Gutter-mindedness makes what she thinks is a perfectly innocent comment which is construed into something "nasty and raunchy".

I actually had to check my watch and look outside. I thought the lunar tides were off kilter somehow. Took me this long to even respond...I actually didn't see that one coming.

- The bad team that always seems to do well when I pick a pitching staff against them is the Devil Rays.

- The good pitching staff that I rarely pick because whenever I pick them, they don't do so well, is the Yankees.

- I've noticed that Plaw's trash talking frequency is directly correlated to his place in the standings.

- Bad Daddy's frequency, on the other hand, is not.

- There are some pretty hardcore poker players in this group: Buffy, Plaw, JG, FS and I believe Bad Daddy plays some also. I, on the other hand, played only once- we played Texas Hold'em for charity. I won 1st place- a whopping total of $40.

Right. Bad Daddy will trash talk whether he has Wood or not! :p

Ok, so DoucheMan and I already have a standing bet on our Sept 7 game...though I forget what it is that we bet? Might have to work out those details. Funny, as many people as I have bet from this board, I have yet to have had to pay ANYONE. (wow, if that wasn't a jinx..... )

And though it is still early (but never premature) I am calling out to Bad Daddy - a nice December 21 bet could mean early Christmas for one of us. Whaddya say?????

No, I'm not putting down winning $40, no way. It's small compared to the $570 pot that PL just won, but I'll take it. It's what we were playing for anyway. The rest of the money went to charity.

Yeah, it's hard to talk trash when you're down in the lower depths. Trash talking should be reserved for those at or near the top. Like me.

I would not be so sure about that - PL is first half champ and that is nothing anyone can ever take away.

Although personally I see no record of that on the ESPN website now - so gee maybe someone can take it away. :p

About those puka shells, when I went to church this Sunday, I saw about 15 kids wearing those things. What's going on? Is this a midwestern thing or are you guys seeing it at the coasts?

DB, they were the rage a while back but they are coming back into style quickly all over the place. The return of the surfer look, dude!

It just looks weird on professional athletes I think. It was one thing for the guido pitchers to want to wear their gold chains but it seems it would be distracting to have those sharp, heavy pukas around your neck while you try to pitch.

Jason Sehorn (ick) used to sport some kind of choker thingy last year. Who the heck wants to wear jewelery while playing football? Probably a metrosexual....

Well, OA and HH just jumped out to a quick 8 - 0 on the rest of us, because of Pujols's 3 run homer. This guy is an absolute monster. I think he is quickly catching up to A-Rod as the best player of the game not named Barry Bonds.

Pork kicked me out of the league and Bad Daddy talks too much, but really, they're very nice people. Please watch out for Buffy and Plaw because I know they will take it hard when they fall in the standings. I pray for the others as well. Pray that I win... My husband still wants to know who is and why I take his name in vain every single night and curse him out... He once wanted to know why, as normally a chicken kinda person, I talked of Pork alot muttering under my breath. When it comes to poker, two things are true I do enjoy the game and in a real large tournament I am truley dead money. This is a trickle down effect from my dad who loves the game and has enjoy years of playing. He drafted me to fill in a seat or two years back and I caught the bug, but it is he who plays big money, spends weekend away and has deep enough pockets to compete in that big money games. I am thankful for his help and backing at times!

I on the other hand can be seen playing many smaller games with people who I know and have a few bucks on campus or the back room at the pub.We don't play Texas holdem and we don't play no limit and NEVER play with wildcards!

Poker is still a people game. You play against one another and just like here, there may or may not be lots of trash talking at times!

Right now I am more into POK-HER as love is in the air.

To equate this to poker, this is where I throw my cards down, swipe the chips as I push out my chair to get up and make a fresh cocktail. After requesting a new deck of cards and a new shuffle in somewhat colorful language, I am good again and on my way back. :p

I seriously don't quit the game because of a few bad hands. But I think about not playing next year....
