For the new players...

it will take a few weeks to work out the kinks. I can remember on two occasions not renegotiating my players on Monday after the values changed and ending up paying more for a player than I needed to. (This is all in rules section on the BBC site)

It may help to take the time and read through the 38 pages or so of this thread (skipping the crowing and the drivel ) because we have all pretty much documented our mistakes and interpretations of the rules.

We really have fun here and any disdainful remarks or ugly insults hurled are deemed "venting" and only last for the one solemn day that someone is losing badly.

So dive in! But if you cant swim well, we wont throw you a rope, but we WILL call for help After all, we're not communists!

I KNOW LDV is gonna have the answer for this. Watching the Orioles/Chi Cubs game last night, Erik Karros is their 1st baseman replacing the injured player. He is still listed on the roster as DH. What happens if you pick him. Do you actually pick him as the DH and get another 1st baseman to pick?

Players aren't always listed under the position they're playing. Many players play more than one position. Just make sure your roster is full...

Bethie - it is my understanding if you pick a player, he gets you points no matter what position he plays. Eric seldom plays first but he may have more AB's when in as a 1Bman.

He is gorgeous but only gets like 3 hits (allbeit good ones) a year. I think he is close to being done

That's right, you just pretend that there is nothing to worry about. Just remember you have to concern yourself with the Curse of Pork tonight.

And for the two rookies - here is a bit of friendly advice. Take Sammy Sosa NOW - he might miss a few games but his value is at an all time low - so now is the time to grab him. Also might want to find out who JGeoff picked as his PS and take someone else - it is known as the Curse of Pork - you will all probably find out soon enough. Well maybe Beth won't unless JGeoff picks Baltimore as a PS :p

That's good advice. Considering the Curse of Pork has landed me in Second Place :p

Lately it's been the Curse of Plaw, tho... I'm not too optimistic about tonight

As for Sosa... what kind of advice is that? I don't see him on your roster :p Don't infect them with the Bad Daddy Curse just yet; don't wanna scare 'em off!

It is apparent you are talking about ME since Pork only visits 2nd place for no more than a 2 day stint usually. :p

I just realized that I was still thinking PL was way uncatchable but his lead over me has now dwindled down to below 180. And Pork only has 17 points over me - that is one good offensive showing!

If it was the beginning of the week, I would feel better about all that, but alas the weekend is approaching. We all know the chance of me crashing and burning increases as Saturday approaches

Maybe if you are nice to your hubby - you can dispatch him again for late night roster changes - we all know how well that worked out for you before. :p

Comedian Bad Daddy in 'da house!

I'm ALWAYS nice to my hubby. C'mon, I never asked ANYONE for help except for that one night and yeah, that played out beautifully

My social calender looks pretty uneventful until about 9pm Saturday night. But by then all the rainouts SHOULD be announced so I shouldn't have to be obsessed at all this weekend.

Rule #1 in the Stupid Newbies Worst Things To Do List: Never have half your players made up from a team that has a rain out. Kind of nice to start the leaque off with big fat 0's. Seems poet.

Time to read chapter 1 in plaw's book on Look At Weather Conditions Of Games Before You Choose Your Team book. As it is gonna down pour again tomorrow, I'm getting all the Orange out of my team as we speak.

Well, thats not entirely true. You're in NEGATIVE numbers (your pitching staff has taken a major league beating).

Welcome to the trash talkin' league. :p

Cool. I might start in the negative numbers as planned. I can't see that game, so thanks for breaking the bad news. I must have a bullet proof vest on. Don't know how I dodged the bullet of the rain out. The Orioles some how are getting this one in.

Edit: Ok...so I'm NEVER taking the Phillies again. At least not Randy Wolf. Screw me over once and get sent back to pee wee leaque.

One word for tonight: Mediocre. Or here's another word: crap. No real movement in the ranks with the exception of our newest 12th place member If you averaged out all the scores, we all did about 40.

I shouldn't chide Bethie though, who even with that obscene score, managed to score more OH-ffensive points than me.

And Bethie, dont be too hard on Randy - he is scheduled to pitch tomorrow. Millwood pitched for your PS today but only about 3 innings. Leave it to a team that YOU picked to start a brawl on the field. I thought I was watching football there for a minute with all the tackling going on!

Chin up. We have all had a sucky night at least once in this game. Way to debut on Friday the 13th!

What are you looking surprised for at my score Buffy? I said I didn't want to do any better then -25. So I'm pissed. Better yet, I get a quick taste of the curse of the pork today. And of course I was jam packed with Birds yesterday, but do I get Jay Gibbons? Nooooooo. The bastard hits a grand slam. And no more Tony Bastita either. What's up with his stance? He looks like he has something stuck up his ass.

Ah, Bethie...I'd forgotton that you, too, were an early riser. Usually, the trash talking doesn't start around here until about 10 or 11.

Look at the bright side...30 days, including today, and then you start playing for real

And remember this: It's much harder, and therefore a greater achievement, to select a pitching staff that goes minus 36 than it is to pick one for plus 36.

So for your first day, you did good. :p

I'm just pacing myself. By this time next week I plan to be at +10. What can I say. I set high goals. You and I are the early risers, while the rest of the crew are the insomniac vampires.

Didn't have the pleasure of seeing the Phillies game, but just saw the highlights. That little catcher body slamming that batter was too cute. He should get a pro wrestling contract. NOT! But gotta love the Phillies attitude: If we can't beat you on the field we'll beat the crap out of you.

I just wanted to check in and see how I did on my first night out. I take that as a 44 postive. That isn't to bad for a newbie?

I still have a lot to read and learn before the start of the new season.

I know what you mean plaw. The no-brainers are facing tough teams or starting their worst starters (Dodgers, Cubs, Yanks, Seattle come to mind.) I picked Baltimore by default. I hope your home team gives me some love, Beth E!
