I don't think you necessarily need 2 outs to get unearned runs, either.
Yeah, he should have been out of the inning, but all that subsequent offense was still his fault. Those same guys still would have batted in the next inning, so in effect, their contribution is being negated, at least as it applies to the pitcher's ERA, simply because it came after an error.

Of course your right about not needing two outs for an unearned run. The first batter can reach on an error, and whenever he scores, rgardless of the number of outs, the run will be unearned. i just used the two out example to illustrate what I think is the stupidity of the rule.

Nice to have all this offense today. I need it to keep up with the Mutts pitching.
