Where have you been?

Last couple of weeks you've missed almost half the days. I expect more participation from you in the second half, young fella'.

See, when I do the standings every morning and you don't have a team, it's a real pain the ass to figure out how many periods I have to put in after your name and scores to get everything to line up all nice and everything.

I know you said you won't miss a day once the second half starts. Let's hope so.

BTW, the Sixers will be lucky to make the playoffs. And if they do, they'll be out after the first round.

I thought I saw something that said he was coming back. Guess I was wrong...

Well, I'm losing by 131 points and it would take the miracle of miracles - something along the lines of virgins giving births to babies - for me to win this game on the last day. Somehow, I don't think it will happen, so plaw, let me be the first to congratulate you on your win this first half. You picked your players like fine wine (I picked my players like fine whine ), you picked your coaches to win as if you had $500 riding on it (and at times you did ), and most importantly, you kept the energy up in this place, feeding our group basketball-sized pieces of Levitra. Seriously though, you're doing a great job as a commish and I look forward to beating you in the second half!

With me finishing in second place and in effect, finishing as the "first loser," I want to congratulate all my fellow losers out there. For inspiration, I want to leave you with these tidbits. Take them to heart!

(Crabby might disagree with this, but...)
Unknown - It's not the size of the boat. It's the motion in the ocean.

Don Vito - And that by chance if an honest man such as yourself should make enemies, then they would become my enemies. And then they would fear you.

Frank the Tank (Old School) - Anything? Well, uh I guess I, deep down, am feeling a little confused. I mean, suddenly, you get married, and you're supposed to be this entirely different guy. I don't feel different. I mean, take yesterday for example. We were out at the Olive Garden for dinner, which was lovely. And uh, I happen to look over at a certain point during the meal and see a waitress taking an order, and I found myself wondering what color her underpants might be. Her panties. Uh, odds are they are probably basic white, cotton, underpants. But I sort of think well maybe they're silk panties, maybe it's a thong. Maybe it's something really cool that I don't even know about. You know, and uh, and I started feeling... what? what I thought we were in the trust tree in the nest, were we not?

DB, I come here once a week to check on you and not only did you let me down and not get into 1st place, but now you are rambling on about .... underpants?! I think work is getting to you. Take a day off or something. :p

February is my slow sports month and it is currently snowing buckets here. I so want to be in a Spring (Training) frame of mind.

1st place. Was that too much to ask? I woulda done a cheer.

And a damn good cartwheel. Frank the Tank would not have had to venture a guess about the underpants.

I tried Buffy, I tried. I was even unpredictable - so unpredictable that I chose a guy who was injured!

Talk about underwear got your panties in a bunch? If I recall correctly, 85% of our posts on the yahoo football board was about underwear! I'm not saying whose, but still, we were talking about underwear!

Y'all are a buncha pervs.

Next half try to concentrate on the G-A-M-E, DB. I'll send the good luck vibes your way.

Oh wait. That didn't work this time did it?

Thanks for the kinds words, DB. It's been my pleasure the past four months. I'm looking forward to the second half, and especially those magical few weeks in April when we have baseball and basketball going at the same time.

Through the past seven months you have proven to be a most worthy adversary, and the fact that we battled closely, head-to-head, for the second half baseball crown and the first half basketball lead, with neither being decided for sure until the last few days of each season, is, I believe, a tribute to our intelligence, acumen, and fanaticism for the competition.

As for you Buffy, what I have ever done to make you treat me so disrespectfully? Why would you be pulling for DB to finish first instead of me? Am I not rooting for your bud Crabby to beat out JG for third? A little reciprocity would be nice.

And if february is your slow sports month, why don't you get into the game?

And, oh yeah...Who's Frank The Tank?

, you know I mean no disrespect :p . Am I not keeping myself involved just a tad in your bb game? I just like rooting for the underdog.

Can't root for the 'other' chick - one who calls herself Crabby? She beat me in football? The gal can hold her own.

Pork? Fuggedaboudit. It gives me great joy to see him whine and suffer! He is so good at it! (Uh -Oh those words will come back to bite me! :p )

Congrats, Plaw, on that "upset" win! :p

Congrats, Douche, on leading the Losers! And perhaps having the lowest gameday total of the season among those who've played

20 pts behind Crabby -- damn. On a slim pickin's day, too.

It'll boil down to:

Stoudamire vs Crawford
Marshall vs Abdur-Rahim
Camby vs Dale Davis

...I don't see 20 pts in there for me... Good thing we didn't bet panties again...

What "upset"? I thought I was the morning line favorite. Unless you're talking about all those people who are upset that I won.

Except for Marshall, who I'd bet has one of the highest V.Avgs in the league since the trade, any one of those guys could score anywhere between 5 and 30 points. So there's some hope for you yet, however small. If you lose, you can blame it all on your infamous selection of Brad Miller on a night he wasn't playing :p .

Me? I'm rooting for Crabby

[/b][/quote]I, for one, am not upset. Gives me greater motivation for the 2nd half - a motivation that was at times waning because of the repetitiveness of the player selections. Now I'm ready to prove that I am indeed, a second half player!

Without knowing who has who, here is an objective opinion of who I think wins in these matchups...

Stoudamire vs. Crawford - Being from Chicago, I am privy to seeing how Crawford does daily. The thing about him is, he's a Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde player. Sometimes, he's boring and other times, a scoring wild man. Tonight against Boston at home, I think he will be a wild man - 24 points, 6 assists, 4 rebounds. Stoudamire, as a basketball player, is pretty bland. Maybe he's only interesting when he's high, I don't know. He'll get 13 points, 7 assists, a couple of steals.

Marshall vs. Reef (what a great name to be playing in Portland, by the way - I can see it now... (over the loud speaker) THE REEFER!) - I agree with Plaw. Shareef should win this one easily, but Marshall has been playing well. This one's a push, I think.

Camby vs. Davis - I don't really know much about either player. Neither is exciting and you don't expect either of them to go on any scoring or rebounding binge. I'll give this one to Camby, because he's younger and only has to fight Nene for rebounds and Carmelo for points. Davis has to defer Reef and Randolph for both points and rebounds.

Wow, that was actual basketball talk. I have a headache now. I think I'll go lie down.

Good analysis of the JG-CC matchup, DB.

Potentially, with respect to their ability to have big games, I give a big edge to Camby over Davis, and a medium edge to Crawford over Stoudamire.

Marshall and Reefer (good one, DB) both have the potential for big games, but Reef has more of a downside risk I think, especially playing with a new set of teammates so I give the edge to Marshall.

Overall I think JG has the potential to have a bigger night than CC, but it's a close call.

Did I mention that I'm rooting for Crabby?

I've outdone myself... a 56!

In any case, just for fun, here's my lineup picking from players from the rookie game/all-star game...

PG Kirk Hinrich 11.5
SG Allen Iverson 19.5
SF Lebron James 16.5
PF Boozer 16.2
C Shaq 24.8
Coach Saunders 4.0

Total 92.5

I'm just thinking here....

Suppose we were to start a second league, with a self-imposed salary cap of, say, 75 or 80.

That would make for a more competitive game, wouldn't it?

It's an interesting concept - the self-imposed lower salary limit. I just have a couple of thoughts...

- Two leagues?? Once baseball starts, three?? I don't think there's enough time in the world!
- The problem with the game isn't that salary limit is too high. The problem with the game is that there aren't enough games everyday. In baseball, you have on average 12 - 14 games everyday - lots of players to choose from. In basketball, we're lucky to have 6 - 8. Lowering the salary limit, will pigeon hole us even further in choosing the same players... Quentin Richardson, Boozer, etc...

And raising the salary limit would have the same effect: everyone picks "the best" (arguably) players...

Exactly Pork... The trouble is we're pigeon holed to begin with because with a small number of games, there just aren't that many good players to choose from...

Good points, DB. I forgot about the "not enough games everyday" factor. Plus, these guys are a lot more preictable than baseball players.

Even the best in baseball go 0-4 proabaly about 25% of the time. You won't see too many o-fers from Garnett.

Oh well. I was trying to make it a little more competitive for you also-rans. I guess I'll just have to finish first in the second half the regular way :p
