4 people have T-Mac (DB, PL, CC, TM).
The other 4 do not (JG, BT, OA, SP).

I didn't jinx us. I don't think PL did either. Crab Cake has her own Bethie Curse, but that has destructive power on those that others play, not her own players. From the first group, I think it's likely TM, the man who complained just 12 hours ago that he set a record for players who did not play! :p

But I think the real culprit lies with the other group. For those that do not know, your Don, the Pork himself has the Curse of the Pork. But that curse has destructive power on players that he does pick.

That leaves the other three. I personally think it's BGT. He probably gets Maxim and in the latest issue (Shannon Elizabeth cover), the "How To" section shows how to make a voodoo doll.

He's the guilty one, your honor. The man with the doll. :p

[WhineAlert]

I should've kept my freakin' mouth shut! I WISH I had T-Mac on my team instead of freakin' Quentin Richardson. WTF happened? He played 9 freakin' minutes for a -2 ?!?!! That is NOT what I was looking for, Dickson. Bastid. You BETTER be hurt or I'll hurt you myself!!

Anyone who had Richardson has experienced THE CURSE OF PORK firsthand!

DB scored 102 even without T-Mac. Is there no stopping the man. I guess I can't moan over 95 points either. But I'm still ready to break someone's kneecaps.

And, yes. I'm still friggin confused about all these curses. I haven't cast my spell on anyone recently, so it's not me. Whoever it is, you can act like a man and fess up!!

The curse of the Pork strikes again!

OK, I'm done whining about T-Mac.

Oh wait... one more... Un-freaking-believable ... OK, I feel better now!

Now let me see... who put the curse on Q-Tip there... It wouldn't be me? I think it was Bethie!

Never heard of the man. My vodoo doll is jabbed right at Baron Davis. The scrub does wonders until I have him. He's on my "DNR" list. Don't say you haven't been warned.

My inexperience in fantasy leagues is starting show big time. I think I'm cursing myself with some picks. Now if there was a Maxim fantasy league...

I still have confidence in you, BT. Remember, I picked you to finish second (behind me, of course). I know you're knowledgable, even if you picked the Bucks to beat the Nets in the playoffs last year :p

Just hang in there, kid. There's a long way to go, and that's just for the first half. Then there's the second half. And then, there's baseball....

At least you're in the game. Not like those big wusses Big Daddy Don and La Dolce Vita. Not to mention Don Corpuzzi

Concentrate all you want, it won't help. I'm just hitting my stride now after a rough start.

80 picks to go, I'm figuring on at least a 45-35.

If I were you, I'd stick that dumb yahoo football game, and basketball. Also, you may want to start preparing for baseball. I'm not sure exactly how many days until "pitchers & catchers", but it can't be more than about 75 or so.

BTW, I think your basketball team may be a little short-handed tonight :p

You'd be happy with a 50% average??

I don't want to air your dirty laundry here, plaw, but ummm... do you think it's dumb because of your, shall we say, depressed standing in the game! :p

Baseball is too far away. We are still recuperating from the nightmares our pitching staffs were giving us!

Considering that we have all the same players (including coach) except shooting guard where you're riding the Flip Murray Band Wagon, I would say my having a short-handed team will affect you as much as me!

45-35 = 56.25 %. And yeah, I'd be happy with that. You only have to pick 52.38% to make money laying 11-10.

As long as Murray doesn't have a night like Richardson did last night, I'll be satisfied.

Not meaning to show my ignorance, but how does "real" betting work? 11-10? What's the connection to the 16 games actually played?

And regarding the football game, I don't want this to sound like sour grapes or anything, but...

Admittedly I didn't pay any attention to the scoring system when I drafted. Mea culpa .

But you have to agree that when a running back gains 150 yards for 6 fantasy points, and then they put some big fat Refrigerator-Perry type guy to fall forward for the TD, and he gets 6 fantasy points also, that the scoring system leaves a little bit to be desired.

Or how about the QB who throws for 400 yards (very rarely happens) and gets 4 fantasy points, and the RB who gains 100 yards (happens all the time) and gets 4 fantasy points also.

Even if you want to say that passing yardage is a combo of a QB and his receiver then why
a) does the receiver get 1 point per 25 yards, and
b) why not give the QB 1 point for every 50 yards, instead of 1 point per 100?

Also, way too much value on the points that the kicker scores. Field goals are usually a function of opportunities, which are the result of a team's inability to get the ball in the end zone, and from week to week the points that a kicker scores a largely a matter of luck, I think. The kickers that score the most points every year are almost always the ones with the most FG attempts.

Not that it doesn't take skill to figure out who that will be, but I suspect (and have absolutely no stats to back this up) that the leading scorers among the kickers changes from year to year, while the leading RBs and receivers tend to be more consistent

Like I said, though, and I mean this sincerely, this isn't sour grapes. I was so engrossed in trying to catch your ass in baseball that I paid no attention to the rules of the football game.

Next year will be different.

Anyway, for a complete explanation on how this all works, read this:

http://www.thegodfathertrilogy.net/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=002957

(My lengthy post is about half way down the page)

And to correct something I said above:
Actually, you will only break even picking 52.38%. To show a profit, you need to do better.

My current record in the pick 'em game is 96-80, or 54.54%, So if I were betting, say, $100 on each game, I'd have a profit for the season of $800 (96 x 100 minus 80 x 110)

Thanks plaw. Great explanations, by the way.

My original confusion is your quote of 11-10 and 52.38%. I know 52.38% = 11/21. How does this relate to you making money? Is 52.38% the breakeven point since if you go 11/21, you've made 110 in profit, but lost 110 in your 10 losses meaning any picking percentage higher than 52.38% means you're making money??
