Sony May Be Redesigning PlayStation 3 Controller

From GamePro.com

Top Sony executive Phil Harrison today suggested that Sony might be revising its PlayStation 3 controller design.

At an exclusive Q&A session at the Game Developers' Conference today, Phil Harrison was asked whether the recent lawsuit over Sony's DualShock controller -- which Sony lost -- would have any effect on the PS3 controller design.

Phil Harrison replied that it wouldn't, but explained in a follow-up question that "the [PlayStation 3] controller will be revealed at E3."

During the keynote earlier in the day, a slide briefly showed a timeline for various PS3 developer kit milestones; one of these dates was listed for April, and read "prototype PS3 controller."

The subject of the PS3 controller has been a touchy subject with Sony as of late. Aside from its first appearance at E3 2005 almost one year ago, that boomerang-shaped controller has not reappeared. Given wide outcry among gamers toward that design, speculation has ensued that Sony was preparing to redesign that controller to appease outraged fans. Sony has neither confirmed nor denied that speculation, but we'll keep you posted.
