Read this on BBC.com, the quote is from an EA-dude working on the game.
Quote:
The game was originally due to be released last year in time for Christmas. The extra four months, said Mr DeMartini, has allowed the developers to do more than make a GTA clone.

"We are trying to be epic with this experience," he stressed.

Much is riding on the success of The Godfather: The Game. Aside from the millions spent on making the game, EA is hoping to establish it as one of their blockbuster titles and move on to adapt the two sequels.

"We went into this venture taking into consideration the establishment of a brand new franchise. Our intention is to make two and three," said Mr DeMartini.

If they can make a game out of this one, I can see GF II and III. Well, sorta. I mean GF II and III don't have that many "action" type jobs that could be made into Video Game missions.

But we'll see. From what I see, this game looks pretty decent.

Hey, how's it going?

I can see two made into a game but I dunno how they'd make III one.

copied from EA.Fourums:

I'm a patron of the Godfather and most things that involve organize crime, so I naturally picked up this game.

I have past foruming experience and past idea-creating experience, I have even received word that some of my ideas are being incorporated into a sequel to a game that I was a member of its forum.

Now, I haven't looked at these boards/forum too much....I just read a thread about there being ten cars in the game. I don't know any of you...And I'm not familiar with any idea threads or ideas, and though I could use the search and contribute to another thread, I prefer having my own thread.

...Now, onto the ideas.....And these ideas are directed more towards the Godfather II movie/book.

-KEEP IN MIND, THERE MAY BE SOME SPOILERS IN THIS-

-Good God, more cars....I saw the argument that considering the era, cars were limited.....I assure you all, there were more than four cars at the time...I say four because average, normal vehicles there were about four in the game.

-Recent third-person, free- roam games have incorporated features for vehicles....Such as shooting through the windows and shooting out tires, add this to a second Godfather... The cars are truly a disappointment on several levels.

- Um.....Once again, on the vehicles....What's the deal with opaque windows? Kinda cheap on the part of developers if ya ask me..... Clear windows, please...Let us see who we are hijacking.

-AGAIN! On cars......For some reason, in the world of Godfather....There is a law of physics stating, only one person can be in most cars at one time.... Randomly generated multiple passengers, please.

-Taxi's that take you to destinations when not in a mission, after achieving a certain status in the "family" you could be chauffered to a destination by a driver....And after an even higher rank, you could access a multi- car escort on for your destinations.

- Feature to where bodyguards follow you upon reaching certain ranks.

-Why is it...When I achieve the rank of, "Don of New York City" I run around by myself, extorting businesses as if I'm a lowly buttonman? For the sake of realistic feature....How about when your character becomes....Eh, a Capo, let's say....You're given some men....And you could sit back at the Compound and have soldiers carry out jobs, such as extorting businesses for you.

-How about altering your appearance at the Barber Shops, or your clothes at the Tailor's...Beats having to cut off the game and start over... A convenience, really.

-How about a more interactive environment....Such as sitting in the chair behind the big desk in the compound's office....You could sit in a barber chair while getting your hair trimmed.....Or you could walk in, see an enemy Capo getting his ears lowered...You whisper for the Barber to get lost...And you take a razor to the Capo's throat, all while he was thinking he was just going to get a haircut.

- During Mob Wars, and if you're worth getting "offed" how about the occasional hit? Say you're sitting in the barber shop yourself....Or you're just wandering the street outside your "headquarters"....Cars do a drive-by.... Shooters come across the street...Gunners spray bullets through the windows of the store you're visiting, etc.

-More apparel, such as canes, monocles, watches, necklaces, rings, fancy handcuffs, etc.

-I did an experiment....You know "destroyable street objects" things like fruit stands, trashcans, etc..... Well, they're easily destroyed, right? I took a car, ran over a few of these objects, and soon my car was flaming.....I've come to the conclusion that the vehicles are far too weak, and should be bulked up in strength.

-Car customization, take your own personal car....Have it made bulletproofed, give it a fancy pinstripe down the side, custom runningboards, etc... Car customization wasn't a new thing.... Even Capone had a custom Cadiliac.

-Knives, the perfect melee weapon... Cut a throat and slash someone to death, very mob-like.

-The drive-by was invented in the days of the Tommy-Gun wielding mobster......Well, maybe an archer on a horse in the ancient times invented the drive-by.....Point being...Drive-By's were a forgotten feature that fitted in perfectly in the world of Godfather, don't make the same mistake in Godfather II, let us drive by spraying from our Tommy Gun.

- Attach bombs to cars, blow them up down the road or when they are started.....We saw that in the Godfather as Micheal watched his wife get blown to bits in Sicily, alas...We didn't see it in the game.

-The aiming system could use some tweaking, for starters....When you "free-aim" the camera shouldn't zoom in so much, it takes away from enemy gansters in your peripheal vision, also...The "auto-aim" gets a bit sloppy and tends to focus on one gangster when another is running right at you.....Keep auto- aiming and the target keeps stuck to the guy hiding behind the wall with a baseball bat, rather than the guy with a boom-stick (shotgun) running and getting directly in front of you.

-A living ranking system...I will use characters from the Godfather I as examples for this.....Make it where EVERY family has a set of leaders, Consglieres, Dons, and Capos....... Most of these ranks should be open to assassination at all times...They would be LIVING and in that.... They would have a routine, spend time at places, party at clubs, eat at bistros, etc.....Or you could kill them at their home...But don't allow Godfather II to have this feature for killing important characters that would interfere with the storyline, like say you killed Don Barzini...And then you get to the mission where you kill all the dons in the "Baptism level"

-There was a business that was excluded from The Godfather....The Unions...The mob had control over worker's unions, made them powerful, and profited off their dues, and controlled when they went on strike.

- Incorporate a multi- layered "Vendetta/Heat" system....If you **** off the families, they go after you...If you **** off the cops... They go after you.... Add a new area, politicians....Control them, bribe them.... Either control a Mayor, Judge, Senator, etc....That will turn a blind eye to your actions....Or be stuck under a politician controlled by your enemy, who cracks down on crime....But for some reason, only cracks down on "Corleone crime"....Or be stuck with a politician who cracks down on all crime, and doesn't except payoffs.......You could control politicians through bribes, by blackmail (say they visited a brothel of yours), or through intimidation (cut off their horses head too? =P)

-Actually go to trial for crimes, have lawyers that can get you off the hook, depending on skill.....Intimidate the prosecutor, bribe jurors, or bribe the judge.....Etc.

....That's about all for now.

Story Ideas: In the opening cutscene have your character from the first one (aged of course) being shot from behind (since we all made our own characters) by a rival mobster in the early 90s. After that cutscene show another of the 4 other families rising back to power since your character is dead and set the game in present time. Since we had all 3 godfathers in the 1st game, no need to bring the movie into it. Bring back mobface with more features and create a new character. Show him ariving via airport in New York to start a new life. Bring him in as a soldier working his way up to capo, once he's capo have him get screwed by the corleones and start his own family. Pick your families color, sign, underboss, consigliere, ect. by either a free agent pool or random peds on the street. Have peds have skills and a loyalty meter. Start from scratch extorting business' and have the corleones as your worst enemy. I would like to see sit downs where you actually can make deals with rival families, and to where the goal of the game isnt eliminating rival families but getting along with them sharing benefiets from each other, of course with the option of going to the matress and getting rid of them all together. Once a rival family is gone they dont return. Be driven in a limo or do it urself, your choice. Plan hits send soldiers to do it for you while you watch or do it urself, your choice. Hire bodyguards ect. If EA can do this with a football game, they can do it here.

Other Ideas:
Of course the black windows have to go. Drive bys, more vehicles and poping tires. Customizable cars airplanes ect. Swiming needs brung into the game, weather affects and eating to regain healt would be nice. Age characters through the years including your character and be able to have kids with women to take the reigns when you die. More usable objects including knifes, like mentioned above barber clippers, really anything. Keep steady connections with the cops. Just make everything realistic. I would love to actually have to fill up my cars gas tank to make it run. Be able to chose what you sell in the stores uve taken over and menus for ur resturants. buy and sell cars/houses. Make clubs and be able to sex prostitutes and have girlfriends in which you can marry to have kids to take the reigns. More clothes of course and idk i listed alot.

Final Thought: Although some of these ideas seem far fetched they can be done. It would take alot of time and hard work, but a game with all of the features listed above would blow any game out the water and silence gta kiddies. Not to even mention the replay value that would be blown through the roof. Id happily pay 100$ or more for a game with all of these features.

if ea brought the football management aspect and the sims together with a gta style of gaming this could be done. If anyone can do this its ea.

Umm okay that was interesting? He said he was asked and his ideas where being put to use? Am I the only one a bit confused by this post? And yes I saw that too all three Godfathers so I can only guess if they played the game enough to rant surely they would have known it was only Godfather one

One thing that I'd love to see with GF II would be getting to play as young Vito.

And yea, NPC control would be nice. They did it with GTA: San Andreas where you could recruit gang members. Plus organizing things such as extortions and having drive-by hits and such would be a good plus as you moved up in the ranks.

What do you think this is the Army, where you shoot'em a mile away?

It would be just great if the story starts like a flashback or something... showing Don Vito Corleone as your Godfather and your his Godson... and your character used to be a close childhood friend of Michael Corleone (Al Pacino), it would be nice that your character is related to the godfather characters I say like related to Pete Clemenza?

Your friend of Michael , you know that he's involved in La Cosa Nostra but don't care until one day the Rosato Brothers hit your parents and Clemenza...
and then you have no choice just to join the Corleone as an a associate...

The gameplay would take place in Las Vegas, Nevada and New York...

What do you think???

One of the others was Nino - Johnny's childhood friend.

Now that this, to use the lexeme gently, "game" is out, one can but wish that F. F. Coppola had managed to do what he attempted - blocking its creation in its earliest stage...

Sadly, this insult to Puzo and Coppola probably will spawn a few more software carbuncles... and if Coppola could not stop this one, it is unlikely that he will be able to do anything about the sequels.

Good. A sequel would be excellent.

Would you like to elaborate as to how this game is an 'insult'?

it would be nice if they add more things to do in the sequel...

such as taxi missions...
and special warehouse missions * like protecting some shipment from the other families stuff like this *

Dominic C is right... the black windows really have to go...
it would be great to add more cars...

How about, your character in the 1st game looks extremley aged and is sitting at a chair. Two men then burst in and riddle him with bullets. Your character was a great friend of Clemenza, so he goes over to Brooklyn to sort out the Tattaligas and is then poisned as he eats in a cafe. You play as Frankie Penglatteli(sp) trying to get revenge on all the dons. You start out as a button and you can meet Don Altobello, Hyman Roth etc. You have to kill gags and then Michael orders you around to kill people like annoying seneators and Dons from Phily, Chicago and Cleveland. You soon rise to a capo.
