reading this post i kept expecting someone to mention either the Coen brothers or steven soderbergh.

although scorsese is great, and he'd probably be my first choice if not for FFC, i think the Coen brothers did a great job with "Miller's Crossing" (irish mob movie, highly recommend it), and as far as Soderbergh goes, although crime films may not be his type of thing, i feel like he could create a very deep, complex picture of the psyche of the Michael and the corleone family, i.e the whole downfall and tragedy concept.
