The idea for Don Vito living on an orange farm and discovering that they are the source of eternal life comes from the whole "orange thing" that's found throughout the movies and the fact that I was watching Part II on TV and there was a commercial for a tropical resort showing a lot of orange trees. Somehow, it led to the whole thing with Don Vito. He faked his own death so that he could seperate from the Mafia totally and move to his beloved orange farm. Or something like that... :p
