I bet nothing happened in between the death of Michael's daughter and his own death. He had already turned the helm over to Vincent. From that agonizing silent scream it's clear that this takes everything out of him, it is the ultimate punishment for all the evil he did during his reign of power, even though it was all to strive for ultimate "legitimacy". He would've had or wanted no part in the business after that; probably became an old recluse, a shell of a man, just as he's seen before dropping dead. That's the only story "in-between".
