If you are a son of a Don, could you be a Don jumping possitions(Soldier, Caporegime, underboss, consigliere)to become a Don if your father wants it like this? In The Godfather Michael did not make all the possitions. John Gotti Jr either, or at least I don`t think so. Alphonse Perisco, I don`t know but I doubt it. Being the son of a Don, can you take advantage of it?Can a Don give the place to his son even though his son did not make all the possition like Michael?

I expect that if a maffiaboss wants to have a succesor, or install someone in a highranked position, he takes someone who he can trust. Then a son is indeed a serious possibility, since I don't think there are many sons who betray their family, in the history of the mob (okay, Fredo, I'll give you that ).
See, we can act as smart as we want, but at the end of the day, we still follow a guy who fucks himself with kebab skewers.

But not all the underbosses/caporegimes would agree with that. If the son become boss they were passed-over. Maybe they are gonna betray the family (like Tessio).
Bonanno wanted his son as successor but the commission didn't agree, neither did his caporegime (or underboss?) Gaspare DiGregorio.
It doesn't happen often, the only examples I can think of in NYC are: John Gotti-Junior Gotti Carmine Perisco-Al Persico
Santo Trafficante succesor was his son Santos Trafficante, Tampa.
In Sicily i think it happens more often than in America.

There is nothing that says, in mobdom of course, that one must hold each title/postiton in the chain of command to become a Don. Like any other structured organization, it is preffered that a person who is going to be given a high postion work his way up the ladder, holding titles at different levels in the chain of command. But we see it everyday in the business world. We see people who've worked for 20 years in a company, working their way up the ladder and holding various high ranking positions and titles each time they advance up the ladder and then one day some young, inexperienced college kid comes walking in and says " Hello, I am your new boss!" And it turns out that he may be the nephew of the President of the company. If John Gotti took his son under his wing, and taught him the business, there is no rule that says that John Jr. had to hold a postion at each level in the family structure before being named the Boss of the family. Come to think of it when Gotti Sr. decided to have Big Paul wacked, he ( Gotti ) was not the next in line to be the new Don. He had him wacked and then just took the position because of an alliance that he formed with other bosses and capos before taking Big Paul out of the picture. Don Cardi
Don Cardi Five - ten years from now, they're gonna wish there was American Cosa Nostra. Five - ten years from now, they're gonna miss John Gotti.

Al Capone wasn't in the mafia. He was the leader of an outfit.
Hey, how's it going?

She's the daughter of the famous John "the Teflon Don/ The Dapper Don" Gotti, and sister of John "Junior" Gotti

John Gotti's grandparents were Neapolitan immigrants. John Gotti's wife, Victoria, supposedly had a Jewish father and Italian mother. Therefore, Junior Gotti is three-quarters Italian. According to Joe (Donnie Brasco) Pistone, in his book, "The Way of the Wiseguy," the "rule" in the Mafia now is that you can be made if your father is Italian--presumably your mother can be anything else. It sounds convincing. But I tend to be skeptical for two reasons. First, Mafia "rules" (if they're really "rules," rather than figments of journalists' imaginations) are seldom applied uniformly, if at all. Second, I can't imagine that, since exposing his Bonanno pals, Pistone gets regular calls from his former Mafia associates informing him of the latest regulations and protocols.

Turnbull, what do you mean by "Jewish father"? In Italy there are Jewish people and they are, of course, Italians! [/b][/quote]Y'know, Lavinia, I was just wondering about that yesterday. "Jewish" is a religion, not a nationality, and there are plenty of Italian Jews. "Mafia" is a crime affiliation, not a religious order. Theoretically, a Jew of Italian extraction could be made as a member of the Mafia. However, I'm betting that Victoria Gotti's father wasn't an Italian Jew, since most American Jews are of Eastern European extraction.
