Interesting question bro. Yeah I've had a few drinks with Paul Castellano, we actually had a lil chat.
It was great to meet a mobster in real life.

I did it Enzo and I still think they are good people, I don´t care what they do, the most important thing is if they love their wives, their children and their friends. That´s it, you can be a bad person even if you don´t break the law, who can say Carlo Gambino was a bad person just because he was a mafioso? you don´t have to be a mafioso to be a person like this. By the way, go on telling who you have met!

I'm perfectly serious.
But I have to practice omerta on this, at least in public.
Don Cardi knows the story, though, if you want independent corroboration.

Doesn't matter to me if he didn't cheat on his wife, and played nicely with his children. He's a criminal, period.

Peter Clemenza, I don`t say everybody in the Mafia are "good people", about the associate from the Lucchese Family, I agree, but you know he was an associate, and he doesn`t count(If Mark Winegardner doesn`t count, for me the associates don`t count). I can say Carmine Galante was a bad person for blowing Frank Costello`s tomb up. Enzo, once again, I don`t care what they do, if they respect the tombs, the family(personal family), and friends is all I care.

And just curious here, say your brother or father got mixed up with these "good people" and they blew his brains out...BUT the guy who killed him respected tombs, family and friends, still a good person?

Don Pappo, What makes you feel that these mobsters are good people? What do they contribute to society and mankind that would render them good people in the eyes of society? If a mobster killed your brother or your father ( God forbid ) you would accept it? Yet if a crazed maniac serial killer killed your father or your brother ( God forbid ) you don't know how you would react? Please clarify this for me. I am trying to understand where you are coming from with this, but am having some difficulty. Don Cardi

Pappo, the definition of the maffia can be made very short: "A criminal organisation" That makes mafiosi themselves also criminal. Doesn't matter to me if they don't blow up tombes, or don't cheat on their wife, or play with the dog every day; cause they're still criminals.
I suggest you read "Cosa Nostra The History of Sicilian maffia" by John Dickie. Very good book.
I once had the same opinions as you about the maffia, but not anymore. This book tells you, without romantication, what the maffia really is, from the beginning in 1860 until now. Only about Sicilian maffia, tough. But a must-read.

Don Cardi, if my brother(I don´t have, I am the only child) or father got into the Mafia, Police or Army, they are in constant danger of being killed, I mean, they would be looking for death, if they were in those organizations, I know what the risk is, it is not the same to say I am a dentist instead of saying I am a policeman(God forbird!! Never in my life!), it is not the same saying I am a musician instead of saying I am a soldier in the Army, of course it would be awful if some of my relatives is killed, but somehow it something you would expect to happen if they are in the Mob, Police, Army or whatever the risky job you have, I mean I would be sad or upset in that case but that would not be a surprise, It would be a surprise to me, if my father is killed being a wine saler and not being in the Mob. Don Cardi and everyone here: One thing is if my father were in the Mob, Police or Army and were killed. if you join one of them, somehow you are looking forward to be killed. Another one is if you are in the right side of the law and you are killed without reason at all,it is someting you would never expect to happen.
Did evwerybody understand? Am I clear enough?

Originally posted by Vito The Godfather: I find it hart to believe, plawrence I did some research and seems plawrence did a little more than just "know some guy." Here is the story (I'm sure DC will enjoy reading this): Many a moon ago there was a group of friends, Meyer Lansky, Lucky Luciano, Ben Siegel, Frank Costello and Paul Lawrence, which I'm sure all of you know about. But you ask, why is Paul Lawrence never mentioned? Well around the 1960's America's interest in organized crime sky rocketed and everyone was getting copyrights on different mafiosos stories to ensure maximum profit. So a writer decided to tell the tale of Paul Lawrences crew called "Full House" Well the writer gets his lawyer to make sure all names are copyrighted so no one will be able to write stories about them. The lawyer fills out the paper work on all 5 but somehow loses Paul Lawrence's when handing them to his secretary. Finally after 3 days he finds the missing papers and runs down to the courthouse to file them. But unfortunately it was 12:30, and all copyrighted forms had to be in by 12noon. Even though EVERYONE knew Paul Lawrence was apart of the group and all the evidence supported that claim, because the paper was filed 30 minutes late, the writer legally had to keep him out of the book. The book's name was shortened to "Two Pair" :p

If you didn't, you'd be just as cold and ruthless as any mobster. ONCE AGAIN. Mobsters, all of them, have stolen, killed, and raped innocent people of their money, and properties. I don't care if they loved their grandmother. MICHAEL CORLEONE was a cold, ruthless, killer, TONY MONTANA, CARLITO BRIGANTE, JIMMY CONWAY, TOMMY DeVITO, and all the others. They may hav e respected all of their families, and loved them very much, BUT they were still nothing but lowlife bastards.
Hey, how's it going?
