I don't know about where MW got the idea, but I don't think it implied that Fredo was bi-sexual. Rather, I think it was demonstrating Fredo's lack of sophistication. Michael attended the show too, but notice how he remains unattached through the show (until of course, Fredo makes his screw-up)...
