That would have taken away money from Lansky, and Meyer couldn't stand that thought. To a lesser extent the hit on Anastasia was ordered because Albert ordered a "civilian" to be killed, and that would bring extra heat onto the Mob. The Commission sure as hell didn't want that, so they ordered Albert be executed. The fact that Carlo Gambino would take over wasn't a motivating factor for Lansky. Vito Genovese thought he'd be able to manipulate Gambino (and soon found out that wasn't true), so Vito wanted Anastasia out of the picture, but the above reasons were the main ones for The Mad Hatter's demise.
